Mom's physically healing very well, she's able to stand up for a little while now. Mentally her confusion is about the same.

I will be participating this weekend. I am reading a book I can't put down for long. Iron Hand of Mars by Lindsey Davis. It is the 4th book in the Marcus Didius Falco series.
4Carmenere
I'm in. I'll be finishing up The Surgeon of Crowthorne as well as starting How High We Go in the Dark

I had a lovely visit with my parents in Pennsylvania last weekend. I am happy for a weekend at home. I plan to putter: garden, crochet and read. I am enjoying Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature.

I’m in.
Plans for a weekend in the mtns cancelled when my husband fell ill with a fever.
I’ll be reading Holly by Stephen King.
And tending to my ailing spouse.

Friday
Books read from: Alien Tyrant by Ursa Dax, I Take My Coffee Black by Tyler Merritt
Books finished: 0
Time reading: 1.75 hrs.
Snacks: Chipotle for dinner with my sister
Non-book activities: Saw Get Out with the orchestra. It was me and my sister's first time seeing it. I found it disturbing and terrifying throughout and was confused about the amount of raucous laughter from the very beginning. It took a while to get my heart rate down for bed.
Total books finished: 0

Saturday round-up
Books read from: Iron Hand of Mars by Lindsey Davis. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. I am listening to Magic Lessons by Alice Hoffman
Books finished: I finished reading Vanished Smile: The Mysterious Theft of Mona Lisa by R.A. Scotti andIron Hand of Mars by Lindsey Davis. finished listening to Red Garden by Alice Hoffman.
Book Thoughts: I stayed up late last night to finish reading Iron Hand of Mars by Lindsey Davis. This is the best of the Marcus Didius Falco series yet! I enjoyed this one so much that I spent an hour today in Wikipedia reading about the Varian Disaster in the Teutoberg Forest in Germania.
Non-Book activities: talking on the phone and knitting. I am way behind the class on the sweater I am knitting, but it is going well, when I get time to sit in front of the TV and knit.
Time reading: 2 hours
Time posting:
Food: yogurt and bagel for breakfast
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 362
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1033.5 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon in April of 2020.

Saturday evening
Books read from: Pageboy by Elliot Page; Maximum City by Suketu Mehta; The Rebels Apothecary by Jenny Sansouci; The Secret Language of Symbols by David Fontana
Books finished:Pageboy by Elliot Page
Time reading: 2 hours
Time posting: Saturday evening
Snacks: None
Thoughts: I really wanted to love Pageboy by Elliot Page. Page has gone through so much and has such interesting things to say... but the writing is poor, with no continuity and no clear themes; the translation in French made it worse. It ruined the book for me.
Non-book activities: hiking - finished my 14 for Fall challenge!

Friday & Saturday evenings:
Read a few pages from Surgeon of Crowthorne. Rather slow and extremely boring.
I’ve received the audio version of Scattershot from NetGalley and I’m thoroughly enjoying Bernie Taupin’s memoir.
Time read/listened: 3 hours
Meals: Smothered pork chops-Friday
Pancakes topped with peach halves-Saturday
Snacks - a Hershey bar

Sunday morning:
Read steadily from the Beatrix Potter biography. What an extraordinary woman!
Also did laundry, watched tennis, crocheted, made a new coptic stitch book with my first handmade book cloth, and helped my husband close the pool (sad!)
This afternoon is Oktoberfest in town so we'll go by for a couple hours.

Sunday - catching up
It's been a quiet weekend here.
My husband was better yesterday but fever was back this morning. It's not covid; I've made him test twice.
I was able to give away the tickets I had for mountain music this weekend. Hoping to reschedule the airbnb sometime soon.
Lot's of reading.
Books:
Enthralled with Holly, Stephen King. Will finish today.
In the wings:
The Giver of Stars
Moon Over Manifest
The Fourth Wing, fantasy by R Yarros
Kala, C Walsh
Sat night dinner put together from what was on hand - ham, mac & cheese, garden salad.
Still watching "Morning Show" on Apple tv. Most of the characters are not very likeable.
Sunny, 77 F. (25 C.)

I read that biography a year ago and found it a well done biography concentrating on her connection to nature. It lead me to read a couple of more books about her. She was a fascinating woman and her gift of her property in the Lake District formed the nucleus of the British National Trust/Park System. She lived an amazing life. I found the part about her mushroom discoveries as fascinating as her life in the Lake District.
My next Literary Biography is going to be Becoming Dr. Seuss: Theodor Geisel and the Making of An American Imagination by Brian Jay Jones. I won't start that one until in December.

Monday recap
Saturday evening
Books read from: Unsheltered by Barbara Kinslover; Maximum City by Suketu Mehta; The Rebels Apothecary by Jenny Sansouci; The Secret Language of Symbols by David Fontana
Books finished:Pageboy by Elliot Page
Time reading: 4 hours
Time posting: Monday
Snacks: Popcorn
Thoughts: I'm still a bit on the fence with Unsheltered: there are portions I really like but I find the style sometimes jarring, as though Kingslover's editor said: You've got to be more relatable, Barabara! The result is a bit wonky.
Non-book activities: hiking - finished my 14 for Fall challenge!
