A new treat for fans of the Old West. This one looks to be in series with previous DLEs: Stories of the Wild West (Buffalo Bill), Sitting Bull, the Authentic Life of Billy the Kid, Life of Davy Crockett, Jesse James and His Band of Notorious Outlaws, and the Story of Kit Carson’s Life and Adventures. Next we need a Wild Bill Hickok and a Doc Holliday!

There is an editorial issue. EP’s description calls for a limitation of 800, but the photo of the limitation page shows 1,200.

My copy arrived today. It is tiny (approximately 4x6 with 252 pages) compared to most DLEs, but priced accordingly.
“He is supposed to be the original from which the inimitable characters of Leatherstocking, Hawkeye, and the Trapper of the Prairies, in Cooper’s novels, were drawn.”
“In all future time, and in every portion of the globe; in history, in sculpture, in song, in eloquence — the name of Daniel Boone will be recorded as the patriarch of Backwoods Pioneers.”

I am currently reading EP’s edition of David Herbert Donald’s “Lincoln.” Abe’s grandfather “sold his farm in Virginia and led his wife and five children over the mountains to seek their fortune. They had heard much of the rich lands in Kentucky from their distant relative, Daniel Boone, and they found in that vast, largely unsettled territory, which was still part of the Commonwealth of Virginia, all the opportunities Boone had promised.”
This is the first I have known about the Boone-Lincoln connection.

From EP’s more recent biography, “Abe: Abraham Lincoln in His Times” by David Reynolds:
“Not only had Lincoln’s ancestors befriended and intermarried with the Boones, but Daniel Boone had also played a large part in the emigration of the Lincolns from Virginia to Kentucky.”
