Why do you think David annoys Ruth so much? Are we always annoyed by our replacements?

I think Ruth is generally a bit prickly on her best day. I think she is less secure in her new job and unfamiliar with being head of her home department. David is a bit pushy and she might find that uncomfortable.

David is a different type of person then Ruth is and Ruth doesn’t have the patience she needs to put up with David.

>2 Olivermagnus: is correct Ruth is prickly on her best day. She has issues from her parents and her relationship Nelson. A good person and mom, but not happy.
David would and does annoy me.

>2 Olivermagnus: ‘ I think Ruth is generally a bit prickly on her best day.’ This is so true!

>4 JohnDBurke: I agree David is annoying.

As well as these I do feel we sometimes struggle to accept those who replace us.

All of the above.

But in my opinion, it’s mostly because he IS annoying.

I think David has too much self-confidence for Ruth’s liking. She herself has always been a bit ‘apologetic’ (I don’t know how better to describe her than this, she has always seemed to have some chip or other on her shoulder…).

I've worked with guys like David. They are annoying. Someone who just shows up, in an office or a cube farm, without being invited.

Have not seen Ruth as "prickly" but I'll keep that observation in my brain as I read on.
