A new exhibition at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, opening on 8 December, charts the different ways the great mediaeval poet has been interpreted by readers down the centuries, before coming to be canonised as the "father of English literature" in the nineteenth century. The article in today's Guardian concentrates on the bowdlerised and "improving" versions of The Canterbury tales for children and pearl-clutching Victorians. Sounds like a jolly day out for anyone in the area.
