Hello again. I thought I'd make a small list of the books I've discarded this year. I usually try to do more but I've been busy with some house reorganization (which required a lot of sanding and staining of wooden crates and shelves), plus I'm working on a secret project that I've wanted to do for pretty much my whole life.
My discards:
The Steerswoman Series by Rosemary Kirstein (4 books)
The Harry Potter Series (7 books)
6 Andre Norton books
Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang- Kate Wilhelm
Priestess of the White- Trudi Canavan
The Anything Box- Zenna Henderson
That's a total of 20 books, plus I also got rid of 4 science fiction and fantasy magazines.

>1 Quaisior: good for you!
I used to love Andre Norton's books, have bought a few in anticipation of enjoyment. But now I can't get into them, will probably rehome them, unread, at some point in the near future.

Yeah, I'm the same way, although I quite enjoyed her Moonsinger Series when I read it a few years ago. I'm keeping some of her books that I think my daughter might enjoy, but she's a lot like me and wants to read stories with girls and women as protagonists, so most of Norton's earlier work probably won't appeal to her.

I guess I will just continue this thread into 2024. ;-) The secret project I mentioned in my first post was writing my first novel and I finished it in February. I'm slowly editing it now, which is probably a bit more difficult because I deliberately wrote a very rough first draft because I knew if I stopped to get the words right I'd never finish that draft. I know it's not the greatest writing ever, but I'm so proud of myself for actually doing this. It's over 100,000 words, so it was quite an undertaking. I also started novel number two and I write here and there for that one. I'm hoping to get back to it on a more regular basis once I finish editing book number one.
Anyway, I haven't discarded too much stuff this year unless you count tree branches. We had an ice storm in April and it took me most of the spring and summer to cut up the branches. We kept some to make log raised beds and I put other smaller ones in a new raised bed we made with the leftovers from building a new front porch. So I guess we could count the old front porch as a giant discard too.
We've taken some of my child's outgrown clothes to the thrift store and I have another round of those to take over. She's growing so fast that I can't keep up.
I've unhauled 38 physical books so far this year (and 17 ebooks) and we have to go through the kid's books too. My total for last year was 22, plus 4 SF magazines.
