Just acquired a darling dvd of Tristram Shandy which is a film within a film about making the film. The scenes jerk around, back and forth, and show too much of the making of the movie trivia, imo, but the scenes from the book are well cast and shot, though pitifully short. The birth of Tristram is shown in gory detail. as is his circumcision by the window falling on his member.

I think it may be the most difficult book in the world to film. Bravo to them for trying.

Probably you're talking about the Michael Winterbottom version with Stephen Fry? I had plenty of doubts but it was a rainy Sunday and I went to see it at my local cinema, and was very pleasantly surprised. It's a good movie.

I was so delighted when I rented that movie that I ordered it on DVD so I can watch it whenever I want. It just makes me laugh!

Netflix keeps recommending Tristram Shandy to me. Perhaps I should give it a whirl.
