Welcome 2024!

And welcome to my thread. I more or less gave up on last year's thread--apologies to the faithful friends who continued to visit. I vow to do better this year despite the late start.

I am Anne, I live in Washington, DC, and I've been an LT member and a member of the 75 group since 2010, although I took a few years off, and the last few years I've had a hard time keeping up with my thread not to mentional all of yours. My reading went well last year but it got harder and harder to post or even to check in.

I read very diversely and across most genres. I love reading challenges, and this year will try to participate in the British Author Challenge, the American Author Challenge, and the Non-Fiction Challenge, as well as Paul's challenge on wars. I try to make sure every book I read fits into at least one TIOLI challenge. I also have numerous personal reading challenges I track.

I also hope to do a little more thread visiting this year, as last year I did very little and have missed a lot!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, Anne. Love all your lists. Good luck with those. One thing I didn't see yet was your list of favorites from last year. I'm with you; I love the Women's Prize for Fiction. Of the list for last year, I did love The Bandit Queens but HATED Cursed Bread.

>8 drneutron: Thanks Jim--and as always, thank you for setting up the group.

>9 katiekrug: Happy new year Katie and nice to see you--it's been an age since I visited threads but I will try dropping some stars next.

>10 figsfromthistle: The same to you Anita!

>11 Tess_W: Thank you Tess. I've been in DC a long time and I love it.

>12 BLBera: Happy New Year Beth! I've fallen so far behind and have completely lost touch with what you were reading last year, which is a shame. Well, plenty of book bullets in my future. You didn't see my favorites list because it wasn't ready, but it's posted now, and I'll drop it below as well. Now off to check out your 2023 favorites.

>13 PaulCranswick: Wonderful to see you Paul! Sorry to disappear. I hope I am back for a while. Quietly lurking on your thread a couple of weeks ago it looks like I missed a lot of news. plan to participate in the War Room challenge and will try to post on the threads every once in a while.

>14 FAMeulstee: Thank you Anita, and happy reading to you too. I look forward to shared TIOLI reads in 2024.

>15 norabelle414: Thanks, Nora, and Happy New Year to you too. I feel like I'm still getting settled into the year.

Favorite Reads of 2023

Making this list felt easier this year than it usually is for me--I was able to keep it to five in each category, which is usually impossible. But upon reflection, I had to add some runners-up.

No surprise that we have some crossover with the favorites, Anne. And the ones I haven't read are on my WL.

Hello, I'm back.

>18 BLBera: Beth, we always do seem to have some overlapping favorites. I saw a few on your favorites list that are now on my "want to read" list.

>19 PaulCranswick: Paul you are 100% correct! I don't know what I was thinking--I had in my head (maybe misled by the title) that the book was autobiographical, and I definitely read it as if it were true. Still a good story, but different.

>20 PaulCranswick: Thanks Paul--I am very well, just inexplicably busy, and really struggling to make it to LT. However, I'm in the midst of a nice, quiet, chilly long weekend, and I hope to do some reading as well as catch up on some threads, including my own! Thanks for not giving up on me.

Hi Anne - I just read Family Lore by Dominican American writer Elizabeth Acevedo, and I think you might like that; I know you have been to the DR.

Hi Beth--I noticed that book on your thread and you're right, I was interested! From the description it made me think of Julia Alvarez' How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents, which I liked. Have you read that one?
