The Shining is back in stock

It’s been out of print and expensive on the secondary market.

Great news for Stephen King fans who had missed out, and dropped just in time to tempt further sale purchases. Interestingly, it's listed for £49.95 which seems reasonable compared to other Folio editions of comparable size and design. Misery and Pet Sematary in the same format each cost £60.

Wish I knew this before I put in my sale order. But it's real nice to see, the secondary market markups were crazy. Maybe the price is a mistake? Wouldn't be surprised to see it revised soon.

Also a friendly reminder that WMAG7 works on this! It really feels like Folio is treating us this year.

It doesn’t come up on the USA site when I search on “Shining” or “Stephen King,” but I can find it on the UK site using the link in #1 above and then switch to USA. The price is $89.95 compared to $95.00 for “Misery” and “Pet Sematary.”

Hmm, the fact you need to do a Google search in order to bring it up on the UK site, or use the UK site and switch regions if you're in the USA suggests either that it has been reprinted but wasn't meant to be available yet, or that it's an error altogether i.e. it's not being reprinted and ordering it now may result in the order being cancelled.

>6 cronshaw: It could also be that a limited number of copies have been 'found' somewhere at their warehouse - this does sometimes happen. It'll be interesting to see if anyone receives a copy this week after ordering!

They did a stealth second printing shortly after the original release, so perhaps they "found" some of that stock in the warehouse.

2039 copies available at the moment.

That's a lot of copies! Must be a third printing assuming it's not a mistake.

So either it was a mistake and they’re not even selling the book or they forgot to change the price, maybe?

My guess would be the page went up early, and wasn’t supposed to be available until a reprint has been officially announced (potentially after they’ve updated the price to match the others in the series).

Too bad for the person who paid Aldersley $450 not long ago. That eBay seller never fails to surprise me on the kind of sales they're able to make.

Someone in the FB group confirmed that The Shining reprint will be available from Thursday (I guess this is the new release day for FS books going forward, instead of Tuesday). They also mentioned that FS just might possibly honor the lower price for the 69 people who ordered it before they took the page down, although that's not confirmed yet.

My volume has supposedly shipped at the £49.95 price. Fingers crossed it arrives as it’s being sent via Evri.

>17 BooksFriendsNotFood: >18 Priyesh2022: This is great news. I've never read King myself and horror's not my cup of tea (I find enough of it in newspapers) but I'm very glad Folio is getting the profit for the popularity of their own publication now rather than various re-sellers, and that horror-loving Devotees can buy copies at a reasonable price.

>18 Priyesh2022: apparently only 69 people purchased the book at the old price. I thought they'd be more. They can take that hit.

My order has not shipped but I think they will tomorrow or thursday.

Folio have also released a new promotional video to mark the occasion: https://youtu.be/3T1tL5h62sM?si=f5tNuQnSf0HCYpdg

But they were too slow for me. I gave up on waiting for a reprint and read a trade version of The Shining. Not the kind of book I am going to want to read again. I'm looking forward to getting round to my Folio copy of Misery, though.

I don't care much for the style of the FS King novels nor do I like the books much either, but I am glad for collectors to purchase it at a reasonable price.

Good on FS for brining it back. It's also a reminder to not pay exorbitant secondary market prices. I remember when 2001, Great Gatsby, Clockwork Orange, Rubicon and Man in the High Castle were all selling for three to four times the original price on ebay.

It would be smart for FS to bring back Starship Troopers, The Exorcist and Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

This is one of those FS books where the illustrations make me less likely to buy it.
