I've read a bit of Life on the Mississippi this morning, and I'm going to read a bit more while my chicken and rice soup cooks. I invited a couple of neighbors to come and eat lunch with me. We're all getting stir crazy after beeing snowed in for so long. Breakfast was a chocolate chip muffin and tea. I also vacuumed this morning. I did the laundry yesterday so I wouldn't have to run the washer or dryer this weekend when we've got temperatures in the teens and even single digits.

I'm in, but beginning late. I'm looking forward to working on the Mark Twain challenge in Am. Lit. and a book about Cold War era submarines and submariners. Hard to settle comfortably when the husky princess is constantly begging me to play in the snow with her!

I've read several chapters of Life on the Mississippi and a couple of chapters of 1812: War with America today. I'm getting too sleepy to read so I'm switching to streaming TV. I had a late lunch today with a couple of neighbors - chicken and rice soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, apple streusel pie, and hot tea. It was nice to see other people after being cooped up most of the week due to the weather.

>20 elorin:
So after initial frustration and irritation becuase I couldn't get the new robo vac to work . . I just tried it again and it appears to work well. Never had one before and I did not by the high end $1500 model but a very modest one with the best review and on sale. Supposed to work on floor and low-pile carpet though it did get hung up once or twice at the edge of a braided rug. Jury is still out on this but I guess I'll keep it.

Sunday morning catch-up

Books:
Enjoying Thorn so far. I do like a good fantasy.
And reading Sunday paper though I'm annoyed that we didn't get our Sunday NYTimes today. Our NP delivery is consistently unreliable. :\
I need to get hold of Hello Beautiful for book club next month. I'm on the waitlist at 2 libraries but don't think I'll get it in time. I don't want to buy it; maybe I can borrow a copy.

I plan to spend much of the day reading. Cough is a bit better and this should be our last super cold day. I plan to get out for a walk tomorrow after a full 3 weeks recuperationg from RSV. Amazing that it's supposed to warm up to the 60s this week.

Thoughts:
"Life is either a daring adventure . . or nothing." Helen Keller
I need some adventure.

Sun afternoon

I managed to putter around till 3p when l meant to be reading all day. I excel at puttering. 🙄

Did manage to read a story for the mystery short story challenge - “The Kidnapping” from Tales: Short Stories featuring Ian Rutledge and Bess Crawford by Charles Todd.
Still reading Thorn by Khanani.

Brunch - HB egg, granola, yogurt, coffee.

Thoughts: I’m under a quilt but my feet are cold. Turn on the fire? Do l need a nap? Do l really want to stir from the couch? Apparently this is a lazy day for me. .

I've read a couple of chapters of 1812: War with America and I think that's it for the weekend, unless I listen to an audiobook in a little while. It's been a successful reading weekend for me. I didn't finish anything, but I made good progress on my current reads.

Sunday evening wrap-up (since this morning).

Books read from: Jane Kenyon: Collected Poems, Without: Poems by Donald Hill, Watership Down: The Graphic Novel by Richard Adams

Books finished: Jane Kenyon: Collected Poems, Without: Poems by Donald Hill

Time reading: 3 hours

Time posting: 9:00 p.m. Central time

Snacks: ham and Swiss sandwiches, kettle chips for supper

Thoughts: Kenyon is now one of my favorite poets, and I plan to read more Hill. Hill’s collection, about the death of his wife (Jane Kenyon) had me crying throughout, but they were healing tears of grief. I lost my husband at the end of March, and I identified so strongly with Hill’s poems. It was a very emotional day of reading for me, but very much worth the tears. Trigger warning: these books will break your heart.

Non-book activities: Finished my watch of the one season of “Monday, Monday” on Britbox. It was surprisingly good, and I wish there were more episodes.

Weekend totals:
