What was your impression of Geraldine Hall? Was it a coincidence that Maxine was killed just as Geraldine was about to publicly acknowledge her?

I thought Geraldine was very self-centered and didn’t really care about her child or motherhood. Maybe Maxine might have overdosed as a way of showing her mother what she thought of her publicly acknowledging her.

I think Maxine was a troubled child, addicted to drugs. She wanted acknowledgment from the woman who gave her up for adoption. I think Geraldine was troubled too. She did what she thought was best for the child.

Poor Maxine, like so many children who have been through the care system, they are damaged individuals. Might have been better if she hadn’t known she was adopted. If you hadn’t known imagine how it must rock your world and the feeling you were rejected by a parent. May be different if you were abused and then had a foster parent or been adopted. Geraldine seemed to care for Maxine, intrigued to know why she was given up for adoption. You can see how troubled Geraldine was likely to be with her mother! I think the timing of Maxine’s death was coincidental and I don’t think it was related to the announcement.

I think Geraldine is under her mother’s thumb, while being rather a disappointment to her.
The coincidental timing made me wonder if grandma didn’t like the thought of the publicity and embarrassment acknowledgment would cause - I thought ‘hit-man’, 😂.

Geraldine has her own issues including the controlling mother. She is not indifferent to the pain suffered by Maxine. I feel that her decision to acknowledge the girl as her daughter might have helped Maxine and I don't think that her death was related to that proposed announcement.
