Did the murder of 7 year old Thomas help us determine what is going on and the reasons for the murder? Any initial theories?

Yes. I think someone is killing at least one member of the family of the people they are obsessed with destroying.

I agree with >2 Olivermagnus:

At first I thought he might be the child of the abductee in the Dear Diary section, as the abductor seems to becoming sexually interested in the abductee. Thought a child might result from this and thought the tine frames could be about right. That proved to be wrong later on, I’ve obviously got too active an imagination. 😂

The murder of a child didn’t help - knowing his grandfather was a Crown Court judge set bells ringing. Then Kim reminded us of what Deanna’s husband did for a living.

There's the sense of a very different motivation for these crimes now emerging.
