Curious as what our Heritage Press/Club cognoscenti regard as the preferred issue of Treasure Island: 1941 or 1969?
I'm not interested in the LEC version in this comparison, only the HP.

I never had an HP Treasure Island as one of my first LEC purchases was the Stevenson tale. Although in general the earliest HP editions are preferable to later ones--and always preferable to the Connecticut-based incarnation of the Club, the dates of these two are a little bit tricky. Wartime-era HPs usually had 2nd rate paper, though still printed letterpress. The wartime Robinson Crusoe with the 3-D cover treatment, my favorite because of the cover, has inferior paper to later NY Crusoes. In 1969 the paper was usually quite good--I was a member then and was always impressed with the paper quality. It is possible that the 1941 was not subject to wartime paper issues as it was printed probably before government restrictions.
I'm afraid this isn't much help, and hopefully other members are better informed about this work.
