Did the owner of the letters do the right thing in revealing the location of the letters? Was there any way he could have saved himself?

I personally think it must be hard to hold out against any sort of enhanced interrogation. You must realize that they are still going to kill you, but once you give up the info they want, at least they kill you and it's over.

Cotton found the letters under the floorboards where the owner had revealed them. They were stolen from Cotton.

He was dead either way but at least he did the right thing.

>2 Olivermagnus: I totally agree. Having your shoulders ripped apart is worse than a swift end with a bullet. They’d get the information anyway, so give in gracefully and before you have to suffer.

As for the torturer thinking “This fool should have realized that the only bargaining chip he had was the hiding place”, who is he trying to kid? I don’t believe for a second the villa owner would have been allowed to walk away.

Again, agree with all that has been said. He gave up his bargaining chip, however he was a dead man either way, so why suffer through the torture.

Agree with you all. His best option was to tell them quickly in order to prevent further torture. He was ultimately going to be killed regardless of his actions.

Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, would be dead whatever happened.

I agree - he had to give up the secret. The description of what would happen to his shoulders was excruciating.

Still, I had to wonder - did the homeowner give the correct location of the letters? He knew he was going to die, so what better way to have the ultimate revenge on your killers?
