Why do you think the Stephanie Nelle and the Magellan Billet are involved in this whole escapade? What is the interest for the Americans?
2JohnDBurke
America has no interest who becomes Pope and no concern for Church Documents, both are Church matters. Again, I will wait for the revelation.

I assume there was some reason why the Americans became involved in the first place. Usually one power wants another power to owe them a favor. Similar to what Mussolini did.

>4 Olivermagnus: You may be right Lynda, because as John and Eadie says America appears to have no interest in it. There is definitely something we are not being told.

Of course I had to ask Mr. Google's opinion on this, and this is what he told me. It boils down to ...American could care less.
"While American interest in the papal election may not be uniform, the election of a new Pope remains a significant event with global implications". What those 'implications" are exactly...it doesn't say. What I did find out was that the sitting president has met with the current Pope at some point for over 100 years. The exception was the Trump presidency. Probably as a good-faith jester because of the millions of Catholics in America.

I think because while America has no overt interest in the Pope's election, they do want to keep an eye on who is present during the enclave.

No clue…I see no reason for their interest. I don’t even recall why Luke was called to Malta in the first place. Malone is there following the lead from the initial job he was hired for re: the Churchill letters.

>8 bluebird_: I can’t remember why Luke was there, either. I know Cotton was independently acting for the Brits, but I’ve no idea what Nelle was poking around for.
