What are your thoughts on Constantine’s Gift? What do you think would happen if this was made public?

I understand why the Catholic Church would want to keep it a secret but I don't think the church's manipulation of their members would come as a surprise to most people.

It’s quite blatant, isn’t it: If we put the fear ‘of a god’ in people, we’ll be able to keep them in their place.
Quite horrendous.
If made known, it would fracture the Christian religion (possibly beyond repair), it would destroy the Vatican/papacy/Roman Catholicism at one stroke, and (worst case scenario) quite possibly lead to religious world wars. At least, that’s the way I see it.

I agree with both >2 Olivermagnus: and >3 Sergeirocks:.
For the devoutly religious, Sergei’s scenario is a quite plausible outcome. However, I suspect the rest will not be overly surprised by the revelation. Their faith would be shaken, but not beyond redemption.
Let’s just be glad this is fiction and we won’t have to find out.

I think that is a shameful power grab using what began as a gentle religion to control the masses. If it were made public in the Middle Ages, I think it would have led to mass revolt. If it were public now, I wonder how many people would say, "I knew it all along" and how many would continue to follow their religion.
