Who knows. People have worshipped gods since the beginning of time. There would have been power struggles between the supporters of various gods until one finally won. Someone would have been in control of the masses if Catholics hadn't won.

I agree with Lynda. Someone would have taken charge. We’ve seen enough despots throughout history to know this is so, including recent times.
Do I think the world would have spiralled out of control without the church? Yes, it probably would. Humans need to be organised, or at least have some controls set up for them, otherwise chaos reigns. Look at how criminal activity, including cybercrime, human trafficking, etc., has spiralled since the breakdown of the Soviet Union. We’re all paying for that.
I’m not sure I like how the Church went about it, though!

i honestly don't know. I think a unifying force would have emerged from all the gods as >2 Olivermagnus: described. And as >3 Sergeirocks: says, I don't like how the church went about it, either!
