I usually work Fridays & Saturdays, but since I'm off until next Monday I am tentatively dipping my toe in.
My goal is to finish my ILL and one of my no renewal library books. And maybe get through a couple of magazines to be able to recycle them.

It'll be about 8pm Friday by the time I'm done typing this.
Books read from: She Shall Have Murder by Delano Ames (my ILL title; finished) and The Love Remedy by Elizabeth Everett (*HAD* a hold on it, but now says renewable...; 30% through it)
Time reading: about 3.5hrs
Snacks: raspberries and sugar snap peas; 2nd chicken thigh I sautéed last night
Non-book activities: longest shower of the year so far; just finished 3 lessons each of Greek, Norwegian, & Italian at Duolingo (day 539 & currently in 1st place in my diamond league group, though not intentionally); now Midsomer Murders on PBS
Thoughts: the Ames, a golden era comedic mystery, was choppy to start and required quite a bit of suspension of disbelief, but got better. The Everett is also unbelievable and I'm a bit sad. I should be reading my own books. I had to stop reading because I was getting an aura and couldn't really see to read. Took some otc headache meds in case that foreshadowed a migraine & things seem to be better. Going to climb into bed to watch TV because I need to stop staying up late-ish. I've been sleeping in until about 7am, but by that time on Monday I need to be on the second bus of the day.

Friday start up
Books read from: Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization by Thomas L. Friedman. Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. Fire Dance by Helene Tursten. I finished listening to Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi and started listening to Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford.
Books finished: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
Book Thoughts: I ended up reading most of Children of Blood and Bone instead of listening to it. I had it on CD through ILL and it couldn't be renewed, so I read it. I was disappointed in it. It was YA and it read like it. It had a good plot and the use of African characters was unique. However, the writing was amateurish and the novel was full of stock characters who did predictable things. To some degree all characters in a fantasy are "stock" but in this case, the writing just wasn't strong enough to make these characters believable. This is the first in a proposed trilogy but I will be in no hurry to read the other two. I am almost done with Fire Dance, which I am reading for the LT Mystery Series Challenge group.
Non-Book activities: I spent the afternoon at the radio station doing my bit during the spring fund drive. I hope that the message that people need to support this station gets through and people donated. I find myself concerned about the lack of charitable giving in the US. Either we have become very selfish or there is something fundamentally wrong with our economy. So much so that people can't give like they did in the past.
Time reading today: 1 hour
Time reading this weekend - 1hour
Time posting:
Food: I had a great time at supper tonight. We went to the locally owned Mediterranean fast food joint and I had some really good falafel with my Friday night buddies.
Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 409
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1138 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon in April of 2020.

It's about 9pm on Saturday
Books read from: The Love Remedy by Elizabeth Everett (another 20% read, so I'm halfway through it); also finished Apr '24 BookPage (will leave at work Monday) and Jun '23 Songlines (recycled) magazines
Time reading: about 3hrs
Snacks: raspberries and a banana; 2 fudge-covered peanut butter-filled cookies
Non-book activities: finished lessons in Spanish, French, Greek, Norwegian, & Italian at Duolingo (day 540 & currently in 2nd place in my diamond league); paid my phone bill; ordered a replacement pair of shoes because my current pair has wear that hurts my left heel.
Thoughts: I've only left my apartment building once since last Saturday. And I've still managed to spend more money than I ought: online used media order, shoes, phone bill, grocery delivery, and tonight's splurge dinner delivery. I still want to finish my current book before Monday. Today's 2 magazines was a start, but I need to do at least a magazine a day to make a dent. And I need to record & comment on what I've read this year. I can't believe I only have one day off left.

Saturday report
Books read from: Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization by Thomas L. Friedman. Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. I finished reading Fire Dance by Helene Tursten. I finished listening to Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford and will start Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian tomorrow.
Books finished: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. Fire Dance by Helene Tursten. Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford
Book Thoughts: I finished Fire Dance, which I am reading for the LT Mystery Series Challenge group this morning before I left for Gadsden and finished listening to Shop Class as Soulcraft just as I pulled into the driveway this evening. I will restart Sandcastle Girls tomorrow as I drive around town doing my errands. I made a hurried trip to the used bookstore and purchased 10 more recorded books on CD. Two were books I was looking for, but the total cost was $1.00. That is not a typo. They are priced at 10 cents each. The person in charge of the used bookstore told me that nobody listens to books on CD anymore. She doesn't even have a CD player in her car. I was incredulous and asked her what year of car she had. It is a 2019. I am driving a 2017 Subaru Outback and it has a CD player in it. I know this woman and the last car she had was a Mercedes. I think she needs to start living in the real world.
Non-Book activities: I got out of Dodge this afternoon. It was Honors Day at UA yesterday and today was the A-Day game. The town was hoppin' yesterday and the traffic was horrible last evening when we went to supper. I decided to get heck outa Dodge today and went up to Gadsden to knit. It was the first time I had been there in six months. I want to finish my sweater and wasn't sure how to do the sleeves, so thought I would go there and have some help at hand while I started. I managed to get out of the store without purchasing a single skein of yarn, but I did purchase $50.00 worth of DPN's and some other knitting equipment. It was a very pleasant afternoon. On the way back to Tuscaloosa I was very happy to be going the opposite way of the after-the-game traffic.

It's about 7:45 Sunday night
Books read from: The Love Remedy by Elizabeth Everett (finished); started looking at the Feb '22 issue of a magazine & soon realized it (Life Extension) was not a valid health magazine & recycled it intact -- it's a vehicle the company uses to promote & sell supplements
Time reading: about 4hrs
Snacks: a banana before breakfast
Non-book activities: Finished lessons in Spanish, Greek, & Norwegian at Duolingo (day 541); I also did my usual daily puzzles online & in print; laid out my clothes for work tomorrow & double-checked the bus schedules; Monday will be library day, so I've packed everything that needs to go back & pulled the books that will be non-renewable 3 weeks from now
Thoughts: I did not eat well today, having last night's leftovers for breakfast and lunch, then a piece of toast and glass of chocolate milk for dinner. But man those leftovers (veggie calzone with extra cheese & breaded pepper rings) were good. I mostly met my reading goals for the weekend, so yay me.

Weekend wrapup
Books read from: Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization by Thomas L. Friedman. Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki. Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America's National Parks by Terry Tempest Williams. I am listening to Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian tomorrow.
Books finished: Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. Fire Dance by Helene Tursten. Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford
Book Thoughts: I had a good reading weekend. I spent time driving so I had lots of listening time and finished Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford. This is a book for my real life book discussion group. However, I soon discovered that this is not the kind of book you can grasp by listening to it, especially when I will be leading the book discussion on it. When I got home on Sunday I ordered a used paperback so that I can read it. I am deep into reading Hour of Land and am enjoying it very much. It is our book discussion group May selection. There are so many places that I want to visit and I am resenting the fact that I am not going to get to do as much traveling as I wanted to do. My real life book discussion group met on Sunday afternoon and even though everybody claimed they didn't like Sing Them Home we had a great discussion about the book. I guess the lesson in that is that sometimes even poorly written books give lots of fuel for discussion.
Non-Book activities: I spent the morning having brunch with a friend. She is a school media specialist and she is having a hard time right now with all the book censorship policies the state and the school board is imposing. She is also in an active phase of burnout. She should just quit for a year or so, but ... so I listened. I didn't cook a thing this weekend. I do need to bake cookies but will do that later this week.

wrapping it up
Books:
Only half way through Wrong Place, Wrong Time
Behind with a short story a day . .
Read the Sunday papers and the STORYTELLING MAGAZINE I picked up.
Read a little each day but not much. However, the storytelling event was wonderful!
I had thought I might read on the drive up and back but the scenery was beautiful so I looked out the window instead.
Food Sunday evening was pizza and ice cream with my nieces and nephews.
Other activity: Watching PBS series, "Our Miracle Years" and writing postcards for postcrossing.
