Any thoughts why a second invitation had come, or why Emma wanted to go?

I think Jane Louise Dee really wanted Tony to come to the event. I think Emma is under Jane Louise Dee’s spell.

The second invitation came because there was not a reply to the first. I think Emma just wanted a night out.

I have to agree with >3 JohnDBurke:. If you don't the answerer you want...try, try again. Tony will probably go if Emma goes.

This was J L D being insistent. I suspect she knew what McLean’s initial reaction would be. And she possibly surmised Emma would be more easy to entice to a glittering night out.

It looks like the police wanted to send on a second invitation to ensure he went and saw it as part of his duties.
