Lost book!

Looking for a book, I believe the author was from India. The initial main character is a woman who is believed to be bad luck for her husband. She has two kids, a girl who is supposed to be very lucky and sheds gold from her skin (I think it was literal? Maybe a metaphor) and a boy who was bad luck. The husband dies and she raises the kids. The girl makes what's supposed to be a good marriage but something bad happens and the bad luck brother and mom have to come save her.
