Hi,
I stopped using LibraryThing back when we had to use a device to scan in books. I had to enter by hand. I'm so delighted that it is now so easy to add books with an App on my phone. But my library got away on me - and there are so, so many books I despaired that I'd ever get the whole lot back in order.
I'm about to move - most of my books are in multiple, multiple boxes.
I'm wondering if I can archive my library as-is. It's a reminder of a day and time in my family history and life has changed a WHOLE lot since then. So I'd love to download the list for nostalgia purposes, but then when unpacking simply restart cataloguing as I unpack.
Things have changed so much since I spent hours and hours working on my books. I'm no longer working the high pressure job, so this would be a delight to take back up.
Tips, tricks suggestions? I looked, I would have to remove more than 2/3rds of my listed books as I gifted them on to other homes where they'd be used. And then an even larger number to enter. A clean slate would be so much more appreciated at this stage.
Cheers,
Roberta

Some options are:
A) Leave this account as-is and start a new account
B) Put all of your existing books into a collection in this account called "Archive" or similar and start adding new books to a new collection(s)
C) Use the inventory feature in your catalog to inventory books as you unpack them instead of adding them anew. Then whatever books are unmarked at the end of your inventory can be moved to a separate collection for books you have gifted away.
(Personally I think option C would be the best choice. You would retain all the work you originally put into cataloging and would not have to recreate the records)

Thank you! I agree, option C makes a lot of sense to me.
I appreciate the reply.

>3 VriesemaFamily: If you still want to preserve a snapshot of your library at this point in time, there's always the option exporting it and keeping that excel file separate from backups
