This is the thread for our August author Angela Thirkell. By my count she had 13 books published by Virago.

Here is a list of her Virago titles:

Trooper to the Southern Cross
High Rising
Wild Strawberries
Pomfret Towers
Christmas at High Rising
Summer Half
August Folly
The Brandons
Before Lunch
Northbridge Rectory
Marling Hall
The Headmistress
Miss Bunting

Thirkell was a prolific author, and is probably best known for her Barsetshire Chronicles, set in the fictional location created by Anthony Trollope. Her books are now regarded as comedies of manners, I believe, and are still very popular.

So please do leave any comments on your reading of Angela Thirkell during August, and we'll look forward to hearing from you!

I just borrowed one of her books from a public library and I don't think that it is a Virago, The title is Close Quarters.

A few weeks ago I read Marling Hall, the Virago addition also a library book. I've also read a number of of her other books.

Wild Strawberries is on my TBR list so that will be my next read.

I think that I'll begin with High Rising the first book in the Barsetshire Chronicles.

I have several of her books in treeware but not in Barsetshire series order as shown on LT. How important is it to read her in order?

>5 CurrerBell: It's a good idea to read them in order as you will get spoilers by seeing who got married to whom, etc.
