DC Area Meetup in September

Nina (humouress) will be in the DC area in early September, and I'm hoping to get folks together for a meetup! She's in DC September 2 (Labor Day) and Bethesda September 4-5. I thought a trip to Kramers for book shopping and dinner there or somewhere close by would be fun. Anyone want to join us?

Anytime on Labor Day works great for me.

After work on the 4th or 5th would also be fine.

Thanks for setting this up Jim. I'm looking forward to it. My older son (superboy) will be in DC too so (hopefully) he'll join us.

Well darn, since I'm going down for the National Book Festival, I'll miss you by a few days. I'll be down from August 21 - 28. Hope y'all have fun though!

Looks like it'll be a small group, but we'll have fun anyway!

How about meeting on September 2, Labor Day, at Kramer Books around 5, doing some book shopping, then having dinner? Kramer is good, but if there's another place close by folks prefer, I'm in and will make a reservation!

That should work for us. The wedding and associated events are scheduled to be over on the 1st.

I think book therapy afterwards sounds perfect. And food ;0)

ETA: ooh - what weather are you planning for the day?

Unless it's raining, it'll be hot and humid, but not as bad as Singapore. Kramers has inside and outside tables, so we can accommodate some rain. It's also pretty close to the Dupont Circle Metro station.

Second story books is only a few blocks away, so we could add that to the plan if you like.

>7 drneutron: So, relatively speaking, warm and dry ;0)

It all sounds good. I leave the planning to you.

I'm afraid I'll have to take a pass on this meetup. Sorry to miss it!

Count me in! I'll be hoppin' aboard the Metro to meet up with you. First time since pandemic!

I'm sorry I'll miss Laura and Mary (no chance you could extend your trip?) but hoping to meet Madeline - finally :0)

I've created a wiki for all meet-ups. Please feel free to add your names there. I've also included the Vancouver leg (24th August) and London and Leicester (potential only at the moment) for our trip.

It'll be great fun seeing everyone!

Nora and Jim know, but a heads up for you, Nina: I am very much hard of hearing (I wear hearing aids and yesterday my audiologist suggested a cochlear implant - which I promptly declined). I do my best in noisy environments (but how noisy can a book store be, after all?!).

>14 SqueakyChu: Oh dear. I'm famous for being soft-spoken. I'll get superboy to yell for me :0) No worries, we'll work it out.

I'm hoping that we can sit outside for dinner - that should be much less noisy!

Kramer’s restaurant is booked on Sept 2. So I made a reservation for us at Sette Osteria two blocks away.

Let’s meet a Kramer’s around 5 pm and book shop for a bit, then walk up to the restaurant for a 6:15 reservation.

Here’s the restaurant website: https://www.setteosteria.com/

Happy to make a different reservation if this one doesn’t work for folks!

Guys, sadly I decided to skip the meetup. It would be too late for me as I don't want to travel home alone after dark. I had planned to come by Metro. I would not buy any books at Kramer's as I already have a houseload of books from donations to our Little Free Library. Another time when we could schedule a daytime meetup would work better for me.

I recently did have a meetup with Zoe (@_Zoe_), Mark (@radicarian), and their baby Brandon. That was almost too easy for me because they came to my house! Next month I hope to travel to Pennsylvania to maybe meet-up with Darryl (@kidzdoc) and Catherine (@qebo). She does not know of this yet, though. :D I plan to be travelling there with my husband and my friend Barbara.

Have a great time together!

Here we are having a wonderful meetup in DC's Dupont Circle! First, book shopping at Kramer Books, then some good Italian food for dinner on a beautiful late summer evening.
