Could this be any more BAEN!'splosionsbiggunsboobs?
Hands up who else read the pull quote and thought "It has incest?" Embiggening it and looking at the two, it could be.
Bonus fun fact via ISFDB: "In his "Afterword" Robert Buettner admits this novel was influenced by A. E. van Vogt's novel The War Against the Rull." Translated, that means "it's a ripoff but the women get to have guns now".

I was thinking it's the touch of late Heinlein: muddled, self-indulgent, and in desperate need of an editor.

>2 bam2001: That too. And bombast plus telling not showing, and likely some "As you know, Bob" plus overly-described weaponry. (And maybe incest)
