I'm currently reading the superlative Monks and Wine by Desmond Seward. Like all his other books on history, this is nothing short of a remarkable wander through the development of viticulture as an essential part of the ancient monasteries till this day, and is a detailed, almost encyclopedic, traverse through the art of wine, the drinking culture, the cépage, the fermentation, maturation, storing, bottling, transporting. Absolutely brilliant.
