Go Go Goulart!

Ron Goulart, who died only a couple years ago at 88, was a prolific writer, although perhaps more esteemed as a comic books historian than an SF writer. His work usually had a comic sensibility, which was often reflected in the covers. Downthetubes has a retrospective with a lot of covers at https://downthetubes.net/in-memoriam-comics-historian-ron-goulart/

Goulart's "Odd Jobs, Inc." funny SF/detective series has always been a favorite of mine. Wacky covers for all of them, classic Josh Kirby.

#2 It appears that the Robot Mafia is being blown backward due to the redhead (Maybe Hildy Pace? She was a statuesque redhead, as I recall. Must reread) forcefully pushing her way out of the well-padded coffin.

Her right hand grip on that pistol looks a little odd, like it is a left hand on her right arm. Maybe that's the patchwork part?

I didn't know his comics history work, just his funny SF.

Although for my taste, he wasn't always quite as funny as he thought he was, but then I'm a girl.

I remember on GSS some of us called out covers of his books as being not eligible for the strict rules (lol) since they were supposed to be goofy. I believe it was "Hail Hibbler" on the linked page.

But he did manage to make TekWar a bit less... Shatner-y than it might have been with another ghost writer, and he also knew and wrote mysteries. And people liked him.

>2 Hammy_JLK: That cover is overall not as good as the others here. The shading on her elbow makes it look like it goes either way and the art as a whole isn't as good.

I'm charmed by the dancing dog, honestly. It would have made me at least pick up the book and read the back cover.

I'll keep that in mind in the future - apologies!

>5 bam2001: No need to apologize! It's always fun seeing some of the old hits again (the classics never wear out), especially since the dreaded database error is keeping us from seeing GSS right now (Thank Bokrug that Sarnath was saved here).

I think after the first Goulart appearance, it was deemed they were so eye-popping that the rules were (as usual) waived for them, so they showed up more than once. i only remember "Hail Hibbler" because, well, who wouldn't?

And you did bring in a number of new and exciting ones. We needed them so we could ask questions like "WhereTF did Dr. Patchwork get that insanely long leg?" I just sat in approximately that pose and wow. There must have been some 9 ft. tall woman she carved up. No wonder the robots are so taken aback.

Regarding the 3rd here, is the whiff of madness escaping from the robot who certainly is afflicted with it? What's with the not-a-chicken down left, is it the original Robot Chicken? And why are so many people, creatures, and bots chasing the Conehead who stole a bra? Or has all that madness caused the robot's systems to overload and now there's smoke coming out (with a cartoon steam whistle noise) just before it explodes?

Keep 'em coming! We need to top the "sound-effect sporcs vs. the flying cat-bowl/brass instrument." Your findings are always good.

>1 bam2001: I blame my failing eyesight, or perhaps wishful thinking, but I thought the gal climbing out of the coffin was holding a martini in her right hand.

>4 GSSex-noob: Agree. The highly decorated doggo is adorable.

#2 I'm trying to figure out if that is her left leg or her right leg? Perhaps the rainbow leggings are too 'woke' and are upsetting the robots? Or maybe they are just taken aback by the double-fisted dildo guns?

#3 Angry bird and friends wants their brassiere back! Run for it egg-head!

A couple more:

Lizards be pimpin'

Definitely the wrong dark alley.

>8 ScoLgo: #1 is obviously a Very Good Boy, to win all those medals. Must have been the hit of the USO tours.

#2 I think that's a left leg where a right one should be? Patchwork indeed, between that and her elbow. I'm sure the ray gun looks were intended.

LOL at the Angry Birds ref.

>9 bam2001: Lizards do indeed be pimpin'. Possibly in early modern times, with the tunics and blunderbusses.

The other looks like Wolverine fell into even worse company. Does the vulture have arms instead of wings, or is he holding the knife in one claw and hopping on the other? And is goofy lizard related to the pimps?

>11 GSSex-noob: Looks more like Wolfsbane ( https://snap.untapped.gg/en/meta/cards/wolfsbane?collectionLevel=pool3p&play... ) Perhaps she had a kid and he fell in with a bad crowd.

Maybe the vulture dude is from Plun-Darr. https://thundercats-ho.fandom.com/wiki/Vultureman

>12 bam2001: Yes, has to be a relative of hers.

WolfB Jr. has fallen in with a JD Vultureman and a zap-gun lizard to form a gang that probably doesn't need the weapons as the beings they mug will fall about laughing and can easily be relieved of their valuables.

That's some cheeky co-author branding he worked in. I'm sure I had that book.
