I have a manually added book to which I want to add my own Description. On the book's Main Page there is a left side panel category for Descriptions, which has a section to add a "LibraryThing members' description." I wrote a description in the "Book description" line, but how do I add it to the record itself?
Thanks.
Thanks.

You can add your description to your book record in comments. Or if you don't want the automatic data summary, you can use the summary field. The review field should only be used if you include your opinion.
Both review and member description should be your own description and not copied from somewhere else. If you include an ISBN in your entry, an automatic description could at some time show up.

>2 MarthaJeanne: Thanks for your prompt reply.
The book in question, and others in my Collection, are old and obscure and thus lack ISBNs. I am already using Comments for other content. I can use Summary, but I would like to have my "description" appear in the main Description field--as with newer ISBN books. Can I do this?
Also, what then is the "LibraryThing members' description" that appears on the Main Page?

The member description shows in its own section on the description page.

>3 MoranBooks: The description you put in that field on the main work page becomes Common Knowledge. But it is there, not in your catalog.

>3 MoranBooks: There's no way to add your description in place where library provided ones are. Those can only be up and downvoted when there's more than one, flagged if there's something wrong with them, but the area is not editable.
To add your own, you have to use some of the existing editable fields. If you're going to use TinyCat, I believe only 'comments' can be displayed on book page. If not, you have more options, but consider that 'member description,' as pointed out, is part of Common Knowledge, meaning anyone can edit or delete it. Comments, private comments, summary OTOH are part of your catalogue, so only editable by you.

Thank you all for your valuable help-and now seeking further assistance! I can add the content that I want to the Summary field in the LibraryThing Edit page, but in TinyCat Settings: Detail Page Sections, I don't see a field for Summary. Is there a way to add it to the TinyCat record?

On that page what are the choices? Use one of them for your description. You may have to move the current contents of Comments to Private Contents.
The people in this thread are LT users but not TinyCat users. There are other groups that are focused on TinyCat where you might get better answers

>7 mo1948: I think TinyCat can only show comments field, which is labeled as 'notes' and can be renamed to something else, but it pulls data from your comments field.
Edit: looking at https://www.librarycat.org/admin/settings/sections another free form field that can be displayed on book page is 'physical description', but that wouldn't be a particularly elegant solution compared to comments

Related question---This entry https://www.librarything.com/work/282851 has a totally inaccurate description in the Book Descriptions field. How do we get rid of it?

>10 laytonwoman3rd: Go to https://www.librarything.com/work/282851/descriptions and flag it (and vote it down). I just did for this one.
