Speaking of Chamisso, most collections of German Novellas contain interesting uncanny tales: notably, Goethe's Novelle, Gotthelf's The Black Spider, Chamisso's Peter Schlemihl, tales of Tieck, Arnim, and Theodor Storm, all things Hoffmann (the novels are wonderful as well: The Life and Opinions of the Tomcat Murr, The Devil's Elixirs.
