anyone have a clue as to why this tag is so bad? I use it on over 150 books but am considering changing them because the word "gay" has been combined with all sorts of spam.

Oh, yuck! That has gotten caught up in the black hole. Known problem, no known solution afaik

When you say no solution does that mean even proposing separations won't work? Crazy! Will likely stop using the tag then. Are there other tags like this that are such a mess they shouldn't be used?
5gilroy
>4 jonathankws: No, you can separate it. The problem is valid tags getting absorbed into the black hole tag. Separating them is the only way to save them.

Is there a way we could flag tags that are being used where a collection should be used, instead? That seems to be one of the few ways that could help separate this out. If enough votes are cast to consider
User X's Tag "Tag" is suggested to be a Collection by User Y.
This triggers a voting system, like with the tag combination process.
Once enough votes are cast either the tag remains being a tag (vote failed) or on that user's end the tag remains a tag but for the rest of us their use of that tag is ignored.
If enough of their tags are flagged maybe they get a message or they get a message each time they have a tag flagged?
Just seems like some people's definition of "Tag" is as it relates to their own personal collection whereas I feel a lot of us consider tags to be related to the book on a universal level.
Edit: Sorry, my thought process veered way off course to attempt a fix for a non-issue. I was looking at the Tags list of certain books and seeing things like: "Shelf 1" or "Primary Book Shelf." Very different from issue with the tag for "gay."

That's not this problem; the problem here is a lot of tags got tangled together, probably through computer error.
And tags are designed as a personal tool that can be aggregated for public information. For the most part, there's no way to misuse a tag, unless you're using it to spam.

There is no "should". Tags and collections are meant to be used in the way that works best for the member.
Note what the wiki says about tags: Tags are a simple way to categorize books according to how you think of them, not how some official librarian does. Thus one person will tag the The DaVinci Code "novels" while another tags it "trashy, religion, mary," and still another only "summer home." Tags are particularly useful for sorting and searching by those concepts—i.e., when you need a list of all your novels or all the books at the summer home.

That tag is still a mess.

>21 thegaytwinkonquora: I’m actually interested in getting the tag problem resolved, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who would like this thread, and this group, to stay on topic. There are other groups for teens to chat. Let me know if you need help finding them. Otherwise, I’d appreciate if you could show the courtesy to keep this thread on topic.

kinda dead but ok
27MarthaJeanne
>26 thegaytwinkonquora: If you find this site 'kinda dead', it might be because this site is about cataloguing books, not about kids who are bored at school.
28thegaytwinkonquora

>28 thegaytwinkonquora: Oh no, whatever will you do now. I'm sure no social media qualifies as torture and you should seek legal advice how to overturn it. Go find a lawyer, there's a project for you. Off you go

what??

I wish people were kinder to kids here.

Hi, Lucas. This site is mostly crusty old people but there are some groups with younger people, like in the >25 Charon07:.
So if you want to chat with people your own age, you're not much in luck. Otoh, if you want to talk about books or other topics and don't care about the age of other people, you might have better luck getting a conversation going. You can search the Groups page for interests, or Hot Topics or go by book titles etc.

Good luck. Incidentally, here are some groups with LGBTQ (or more special) interests:

Oh, I just thought of another possibility, this group is very active and welcoming to young people:
https://www.librarything.com/ngroups/24622/75-Books-Challenge-for-2025
Note it's entirely general but if you set up a thread there you will get a lot of kind attention, if you crave dialogue. Just be nice. :)

>33 LolaWalser: I don't think anybody objects to young people as such. We do object to complaints about being here because 'my school blocks all the good sites.' We object to people taking over topics that they don't understand and aren't interested in.

A little rant, i don’t know if you noticed this but the veil is so thin right now you might be feeling seeing or experiencing things that your not used to just know right now is a time for change its time to let go of past energy that doesn’t serve you anymore you don’t need it take a deep breath and release all the energy that doesn’t serve you anymore this is the energy you don't need anymore turn it into to something positive you have divine guidance here you have angels and guardians embrace them and reach out to them you are worthy of this let it happen everything will work out trust the universe,The veil is thin between reality and the unknown, between the world we know and the mysteries that lie beyond. It's a notion that has been echoed in countless cultures and philosophies, a concept that has captivated the minds of thinkers and the hearts of believers for centuries. The idea that the veil between the worlds is fragile, that we are constantly walking the thin line between the familiar and the unknown, is a haunting one. It whispers secrets of a world beyond our own, where the living and the dead coexist, where magic and reality blend, and where the boundaries of time and space are blurred. And yet, it's a whisper that is hard to ignore, a call that beckons us to lean in closer, to listen to the whispers of the unknown, and to glimpse the secrets that lie beyond the veil. good morning USA!!!

>33 LolaWalser: I wish people stopped treating teenagers as if they are toddlers who couldn't possible know better. Case in point further down below after the second attempt to redirect to an appropriate place :D I bet my sarcasm would have worked better if left alone after Charon already helped find likely chat partners. But now he thinks he's found a loving audience and will stick around here whether it's ok or not, ahahaha.
45MarthaJeanne
I am not part of his audience. I have blocked him.

As the original poster I didn't think the thread would be taken over for spam - sorry should have made it clearer.
I still don't understand how it's been combined so badly in the past but I'm going to keep using it. 162 books and counting....

There have been new separation proposals that can be voted on.
