I will do my damnedest to take part. I have a book that needs to be returned to the library next week and it'd be best if I finished it this weekend. However, Sunday is also Father's Day here and my brother's family is coming to visit.

I'm in. Since I'm back in TIOLI I have more incentive to get books read. The One, Blue Sisters and possibly more if time permits
4ChrisG1
I'm in - currently reading Forward the Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

>3 Carmenere: Yay for TIOLI!
Speaking of which, I will be trying to get some of my TIOLI books read this weekend too, although I am not sure how far I will get. We will see.
Thank you again for hosting, Silver!

Friday Startup
Books read from: English Creek by Ivan Doig. Mangoes and Peppercorns: A Memoir of Food, and Unlikely Family, and the American Dream by Tung Nguyen. I am listening to book 4 in the Kingsbridge series by Ken Follett - Armor of Light.
Books finished: On Girlhood: 15 Stories from the Well-Read Black Girl Library edited by Glory Edim. Starless Crown by James Rollins. English Creek by Ivan Doig
Book Thoughts: I did not get much reading done. The election has upset me terribly and it affected my reading. Most of the books I have listed as finished were done last weekend before Black Tuesday. Since I didn't post them last weekend I am doing so now.
I do not usually read short stories but had On Girlhood on my stack of short books (books at about 200 pages in length) that I keep near my computer. I pick these books up to read from while I am waiting for my computer to bootup. I really enjoyed reading these stories. They were all well done and reinforced my thinking about so many things having to do with womanhood. I gave this book to one of my Munden friends this morning at coffee. I hope she will find the stories interesting and thought-provoking.
I did like English Creek. I thought that Doig captured the essence of the American West prior to WWII in this novel very accurately and brought the people and the place to vivid life with wit and verve. I finished reading it yesterday and I know that I did not do the climax of the story justice because I was trying to read it during the long dark night of my soul on Tuesday. I found I simply could not concentrate on anything but I kept trying to read English Creek hoping that my whirling mind would settle on the story. It didn't, but it is not the fault of the novel. The novel is worth reading and I look forward to starting the second book in the McCaskill Trilogy.
I finished listening to book 1 in the Moon Fall series by James Rollins while driving back to Kansas and started listening to Armor of Light.
Non-Book Activities: I am unpacking boxes a few at a time, but my furniture isn't coming today or even next week. It will be the end of the month before it gets here. I feel like a sheep and that bleating sound that you hear is me - the sheep - because I have been fleeced. I also feel really stupid. I thought I had everything scheduled only to find my schedule blown out of the water by an incompetent rude moving company. Do not do any business with either of these two companies: Newrelovanlinesllc, or New Start Relocations, based in Hackensack, N.J. Both companies are owned by the same people and both are incompetent, insensitive, and uncooperative.

In! Was looking forward to this but now I will also be hosting a visiting offspring. How much time that leaves for reading we shall see… I won’t be tackling home projects so less listening to books!
I should finish up Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001: A Space Odyssey but not sure what I’ll turn to next. I have bookmarks in 3 actual books and 2 audiobooks, so will just be focusing on finishing something/anything!

Friday update.
Books read from: 1 - The Shining by Stephen King
Books finished: 0
Time reading: 2 hours and 50 minutes
Thoughts: Since the news of the US election I have been oscillating between watching romantic comedies and other easy, light-hearted things that end happily, and reading horror novels. It’s working quite well.
Non-book activities: Work, watching the best quiz show, pedalling on the exercise bike (which I did while reading).
Might have to go down to the summer house today to check on things. Otherwise just a day at home and hopefully getting a lot of reading done. Have to start thinking about what to pack for a work trip in a week, and also some planning for Christmas - only three weeks until Advent now.

Books read from: 1 - The One by John Marrs
Books finished: 0
Time reading: 1 hour 30 minutes
Thoughts: Will this lovely weather hold out thru the holiday's? One can only hope.
Non-book activities: Reading last night was cut short by a holiday extravaganza at a local garden center with admission proceeds going to harvest for hunger. It was so enjoyable to shop, wine and nibble snacks with friends.

I’m back.
First night in new house! Boxes everywhere; too much stuff. Weeding as l unpack.
Book: Just finished The Life Impossible by Matt Haig
Breakfast: Apple fritter, coffee.
Haven’t found dishes/kitchen utensils yet. Goal today is to get kitchen set up.
Other activity: l’ll be unpacking for weeks..
New house has great and wonderful windows with wooded views. Old house had 4 deep, big walk-in closets. Don’t know where to put 6 crates of puppets here. A kid at heart, l have trouble parting with the puppets, games, puzzles, musical instruments and books l used as a children’s librarian. Plus my grandies love to play with it all when they come over.
Sunny, 63F/17C in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

I learned alot from Soldier of the Great War and sometimes parts of it come back to me at weird moments. What I learned in it was great help in some of the references made to WWII in the Guido Brunetti series by Donna Leon. I also listened to it and thought it was a good recorded book.

Books finished: On Girlhood: 15 Stories from the Well-Read Black Girl Library edited by Glory Edim. Starless Crown by James Rollins. English Creek by Ivan Doig
Book Thoughts: I went down the rabbit hole in Project 2025 today. I finally stopped because I just don't have the courage to go on. The people of the Heritage Foundation are bound and determined to make women put on red robes and wear white blinder hats in order to protect the unborn babies. And then they are going to end Head Start. Our children don't need that extra learning boost.
Non-Book Activities: I have been reading and relaxing today. I washed some clothes and will pack my bag to leave tomorrow. I talked to a friend on the phone today but other than that haven't done much at all except wash up a few dishes.

I'll read and get a chance to listen a little tonight, but will give a quick midway estimate of my RAT progress:
Books read from: 1
Books finished: 1 - 2001: A Space Odyssey
Time reading: 3-4 hours? totally forgot to track my time
Snacks: stop tempting me.
Thoughts: Really liked the book more than the movie, which just creeped me out. And what the heck?? Now I have to go read 2010: Odyssey Two just to figure out how humanity started a nuclear war (if it's even explained there).
Non-book activities: Picked up a kid, visiting from the other coast, and the Sci Fi bookgroup at my local library. It's my first professionally moderated Bookgroup, and I really am enjoying the diverse selection of reads - very well curated!
Total books finished: 1
Total read from: 1
Other/future reading: Will listen to Donovan: America’s Master Spy this evening.

Books read from: 1 - The Shining by Stephen King
Books finished: 1 - The Shining
Time reading: Around 2 hours
Non-book activities: A long walk, quick stop at the grocery shop, helped mum put a gingerbread house together, biking on the exercise bike (while reading), doomscrolling, watching some TV with mum.
I finished The Shining! 659 pages, 300-ish of which I’ve read since Wednesday because I have to return it by Tuesday. Great read, but I’m looking forward to a few shorter work now (aside from The Canterbury Tales).

Books read from: 1 - The One by John Marrs, Blue Sisters and Howl's Moving Castle
Books finished: 0
Time reading: about 2 hours off and on
Thoughts: Oak trees: Have a mast season every 2-5 years. A mast season can produce approx 10,000 acorns. That's inaccurate as I'm sure I raked 10x that yesterday afternoon.
Non-book activities: Raked acorns, considered selling some books to Thriftbooks for book credits.

Sunday report
Books read from: Mango and Peppercorns: A Memoir of Food, an Unlikely Family, and the American Dream by Tung Nguyen. Yellow Rambutan Tree Mystery by Ovidia Yu. Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer. I am listening to book 4 in the Kingsbridge series by Ken Follett - Armor of Light.
Books finished: On Girlhood: 15 Stories from the Well-Read Black Girl Library edited by Glory Edim. Starless Crown by James Rollins. English Creek by Ivan Doig. Mango and Peppercorns: A Memoir of Food, an Unlikely Family, and the American Dream by Tung Nguyen.
Book Thoughts: I enjoyed Mango and Peppercorns. It was the book I should have been reading on Tuesday night because it reaffirmed so much of what I believe about the US. It is the land of opportunity for so many refugees and we need these people to help us be a better country. This book was the story of Tung, a Vietnamese refugee and the American woman who sponsored her coming to the US. Tung was the chef of one of the top restaurants in Miami and Kathy was the hostess who guided people to the right food and made things happen for Tung. Together the two women created something wonderful.
Non-Book Activities: It is Sunday so it was playing the piano for church and listening to all the people who were happy with outcome of the election because Trump is going to save the babies.

Yesterday was such a bad day for me reading-wise that I did not type up an update for it. I only read for about 90 minutes, nowhere near what I needed to read - but it was a good day in spite of it!

Books read from: 1 - October Country by Ray Bradbury
Books finished: 0
Time reading: Around 1,5 hours
Non-book activities: Went for a walk in the morning. Brother's family came over as Sunday was Father's Day. We had cake and a nice dinner. Might be the last Father's Day that my dad is somewhat coherent.
Total books finished: 1 The Shining
Total read from: 2 The Shining and October Country
Total time reading: Just under 6, 5 hours.
This is one of the most successful readathons I've had! So much reading done, and I finished the book that I needed to return to the library (though forgot to bring it when I went past the library (sigh). No worries, I can return it today.

Weekend windup
Since yesterday was a U.S. holiday, l continued reading.
Book:
Started We Solve Murders by Richard Osman.
I loved his Thursday Murder Club series. Newest one introduces a new set of characters.
Other book activity:
l, with my sister’s help, have unpacked hundreds of books.
Other activity:
Spent yesterday at the old house clearing last stuff in the garage. My dear brother-in-law vacuumed it all out and it looks perfect. Stagers were there arranging furnishings and decor. Stylish maybe, but a little over the top with big shiny art and a great abundance of pillows! Hope it doesn’t distract buyers..
Photographers come today and it should go on the market Friday.
I loved that house and was very happy there. I hope it connects with the right buyer.

A brief summary of my weekend reading: sorry, forgot to track the amount of time, but it had to be at least 8h of reading and listening.
Books read from: 2001: A Space Odyssey, They Came Like Swallows, and Donovan: America’s Master Spy
Thoughts: Very different books, and all very interesting. The first was for a local library's Sci Fi bookgroup, and the last two were books I'd come across while reading others' posts or reviews here on LT. A VERY satisfying weekend, reading-wise.

Book Thoughts: I am traveling to Tuscaloosa once again. I am listening to Armor of Light and will be listening to Malibu Rising when I finish the massive Kingsbridge series book. I am reading a lighter mystery right now and am enjoying it very much. I like the way Ovidia Yu writes and I love her descriptions of early Singapore.
