Why do you think Carbone was so interested in the case if OCID was taking a pass on it?

I don’t know. Maybe he disagreed with his superiors and thinks they should have taken the case. It does seem odd that they passed on it simply because Aliso wasn’t already on their radar.

There is something very odd about this. He seems quite interested in knowing more without committing his department to the investigation. I think that Connelly is hinting at greater complexity later in the novel.

Could it be he is somehow involved and the call he made was to instruct him to keep a low profile and find out was is being uncovered in the case.

I thought there was a possibility that he wasn't the person being investigated, but they are investigating someone who had contact with him. Carbone seemed familiar with the name.
