Was Bosch wise to carry out his revenge on Gussie before he left Dolly’s? Had you expected this?

Hard for me to say, what is wise or unwise regarding Bosch. His revenge is what a reader would expect. He cannot be in second position.

Typical Bosch when he has someone on the hook.

He needed to make the point that he wouldn't be intimidated by him.

It seemed to be instinct but it might have been better for him to resist doing it as this guy will not forget him.

I thought that he was making a statement and getting a point across.

I agre with John. It’s who Bosch is. No way he’d just walk away.
No, it wasn’t a wise move, but he acted on instinct.

I thought Bosch went a bit over the top. The first kneeing was payback for being slammed into the wall by Gussie - fair enough; but the second kneeing was uncalled for IMO, and he’d now better watch his back.
