Any thoughts how Veronica being Layla’s mother played into things? Was this a reason for the murder? Was this connection a surprise for you?

The daughter replacing the mother, could be a reason depending on the person. It was a surprise to me.

I was surprised that Layla was Veronica's daughter. I guess she assumed that Tony would want her to have the money. I think Veronica was murdered as Layla's mother as Layla ran off with the money.

I was surprised yet not surprised. there is always something shocking or surprising at the end of a Harry Bosch book.

I was not totally surprised given the Las Vegas connection that Veronica had. In the later stages of the book I wondered if Layla might be her daughter, the latter's relationship with Tony adding fuel to the fires governing Veronica's actions.

>4 Carol420: Like you Carol, I was surprised but not totally surprised. There was bound to be a twist at the end of the book like this. Looks like Veronica wanted revenge on her husband.

I was a little surprised but it explained what tipped Veronica over the edge.

I was surprised. It tied everything up nicely and explained Veronica’s motive. I was struggling to understand why she decided to get rid of Tony now. Now it all makes sense. The more Connelly books I read, the more impressed I become. He’s becoming a favorite—which I never expected when I decided to try one.

The mother/daughter thing was a surprise; it may or may not have been the reason for the killing.
