Sat a.m.

Books:
Hope to finish Slow Dance today.
Started The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. I read and liked her previous book The Guest List

Dinner last night was the most delicious vegetable beef soup. We had bought beef shank and shin bones at the farmers market and then simmered them for hours.

Other activity:
still unpacking.. need to be organized and ready for house guests in December. I get distracted looking out the windows. We have lots of deer wandering through.

Thoughts:
Fall has fell. There’s a nip in the air in the mornings.

This hasn't been a great readathon weekend for me, but I have read every day so that's good. I'm exactly halfway through The Fortune of the Rougons now, and like it enough t finish it. If I continue at this pace it'll take up to three weeks.

I didn't get to LT this weekend because the furniture and boxes of stuff arrived on Saturday. A whole passel of Strnad's and neighbors showed up to help unload the truck and got the job done in about 3 hours total. Now I just have to find the stuff I need - like my coats. I got my new home office sort of set up, but now have to start filling the bookcases with my books. The bedrooms are pretty good, but I need to find the coverlet for one bed and the sheets for the other one. I did keep reading. Report of that follows.

Weekend wrapup

Books read from: Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer. Secret Life of Dust by Hannah Holmes. I finished listening to book 5 in the Kingsbridge series by Ken Follett - Evening and the Morning and started listening to Matrix by Lauren Groff.

Books finished: Evening and the Morning by Ken Follett

Book Thoughts: I am still enjoying Under the Banner of Heaven and should finish it this evening. It is quite the story. I am also plugging along with my my science book Secret Life of Dust but am only reading it in short bursts. As soon as I finish the Krakauer book it will become my main squeeze. I started listening to Matrix by Lauren Groff and I love the narrator. She is perfect for the main character.

Non-Book Activities: Moving. The house is a mess and I think it is going to take months for things to be like I want them. The main thing is that ALL the bookcases fit exactly where I thought they would. I have a good start on getting my home office set up and so I have one comfortable room in the house. I need to start putting books back on shelves ASAP as the weather forecast is for light snow later this week. Oh well - come what may ... The moving itself was an exercise in international employment. The crew that loaded my stuff the first day was made up of three Hispanic men. The second day two Hispanic's and one from Burkina Faso. The crew that unloaded the truck (with a passel of help from various relatives and neighbors) were from the Ukraine. Whatever will we do if all of these people are deported on day one?

Reading Time Today: 1 hours
Time Reading this weekend: 2 hours
Time listening:
Time posting:
Food: In between moving I made a batch of tortilla soup for the church's Thanksgiving soup lunch. It was very good. I didn't get the Gingerbread cake baked, but I did get one item done.

Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 472
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1439 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon starting in April of 2020.
