Did Kim do right when going after Chater or were her actions reckless?

I think she was right to go after Chater but her method of apprehension of opening the car door was very risky behavior.

She was right to go after him, but she a bit reckless in her actions to arrest him, putting Chater and herself at risk.

I was a bit stunned by her impulsive behaviour but having only read one in this series before I was not that familiar with her character.

Two ways of looking at this:
1 What she did was laudable; he might already have disposed of the knife, so it would be safe to tackle him (maybe not from a moving vehicle, however!)
2 If he managed to escape this time, they knew his identity and could hopefully round him up later with an APB, so the heroics may not have been needed.
