Book # 1
The Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever: Book Two: The Illearth War by Stephen R. Donaldson
Not a big fan of these books. I read these back in High School and didn't really care for them much. Found them on my shelf again recently and decided to give them another try. Donaldson is the wordiest writer I've ever read. The first third of this book nothing really happens except everybody sitting around moaning about a war that's coming. Thomas Covenant has to be one of the most unlikeable heroes ever written. Finally in the second third of the book we get the story told from someone else's viewpoint and Covenant is pretty much out of the picture. The book is better for it and the war actually starts. Then in the end covenant is back and things thankfully wrap up pretty quickly. Of course, leaving you with a cliff hanger for the third book which maybe I'll reread here sometime. Not in any hurry.

Book # 5
Jimmy Stewart And His Poems by Jimmy Stewart
A slim little book full of charm, just like it's author. I remembered seeing him recite one of these on Johnny Carson and it brought a tear to my eye, as it did reading it. Thank goodness it was the last of these four poems and the best. Not a great poet in any way, but Mr. Stewart shares that same quality in his writing that he did on screen. Folksy charm. Wonderful, feel good moments.

The Doll From Dunedin: A Genealogy Mystery by ML Condike
Won this from Early Reviewers.
This is the second in the series that I have won and read.
I've enjoyed both these books. I love the characters and their relationships, the historical aspects and research, the traveling and world building of these stories. The genealogy and history is very interesting in these stories. The only complaint I have, and this was an issue with the first book as well, is there are so many names and characters involved, it's difficult to keep track of who is who, especially with name changes and historical records in this book. It would help to have some kind of flow chart to keep track of who is who. After I finally quit trying to keep track of who they were talking about and just went with the flow of the story I enjoyed it much better. I still didn't quite understand who was related to whom, and how they solved the mystery, but it was a fun read. I would read more.
