New to Librarything. I’m an Indigenous woman, and I just started cataloguing my books (this is going to take some time haha).

Wondering if there are any other Indigenous people here with recommendations of favourite Indigenous authors and Indigenous content books? Turtle Islanders or beyond.

I recent acquired Niigaan and Murray-baa Sinclair books, looking forward to reading them. Currently reading, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Serviceberry.

I am savoring Robin Wall Kimmerer's essays in Braiding Sweetgrass.

I have two relevant histories on my TBR list: Indigenous Continent for the long and broad view of North America, and Unworthy Republic for a closer focus on the 19th-century USA and its hypocritical "Indian affairs" policy. Both books challenge the lazy commonplace idea that the displacement of Indigenous Americans was inevitable, some kind of unstoppable process that couldn’t be prevented.

I find e-books hard to get through, but one of the more enjoyable ones I’ve tried is We Had a Little Real Estate Problem, about Native American comedians.

Notice a bias toward nonfiction?

P.S. Welcome to the group, queen!
