Why do you think they stopped information about the theft getting out?

I think they hope to score a big political win before anyone even knows the relics are missing.

Stuff like the relics are often used for political things, so >2 Olivermagnus: is probably right.

They are not wanting to cause a mass panic, which within the religious sector it would.

The theft of the relics stored in different countries and the coverup of them brings international element into the novel.
