welcome to my 2025, introducing the first of hopefully at least 50 books!

Henry Hoke - Open Throat

pov of a gay mountain lion in LA. honestly, couldn't ask for a better start to the year lol

book 2 done and dusted, just a short story

Ray Bradbury - The Toynbee Convector

second of his i've read, loved it, reminded me of the Love Death & Robots episode Zima Blue. Makes you wonder what you would ask / say if the most mysterious person on earth asked you and only you to come over for a day

book 3, a LT Early Reviewers win

Lilith Saintcrow - Coyote Run

refreshing switch up of what i'm used to with the action and sci-fi whatever-punk kind of world they live in. amazingly scummy / dirty MC and writing

book 4 and 5

Fred Gipson - Old Yeller
Henry Farrell - What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

both incredible. never got around to Old Yeller cause i knew it'd be sad. did not disappoint

And Baby Jane, what a ride. excellent

books 8-10

Richard Matheson - I Am Legend
Isaac Asimov - i, Robot
Joan Lowery Nixon - Secret, Silent Screams

8 and 9 was time for a Will Smith movie-book marathon. Couldn't believe how different I Am Legend was, maybe my favorite book of the year. iRobot was also great, loved the interview style of it

SSS was like rage-bait for when your priest and school counselor tell you that heavy metal will make you off yourself. i love being a hater

books 16-18

Hiroko Oyamada - The Factory
Megan Giddings - Lakewood
Akira Otani - The Night of Baba Yaga

The Factory has some serious Severance vibes, and that last one has one of the best twists i've ever read

Book 19

V. Castro - The Queen of the Cicadas

once again super gnarly ghost/spirit thing, I love this author, and another excuse to bring this quote back from another book of hers, Goddess of Filth

"You have robbed me. You have robbed my children. And all you can speak of is God. You want to know of God? Let me show you."

how these spirits/possessors aren't attached to heaven/hell or even this realm gets me every time, feels like there could be books dedicated to just the lore of these things traveling across space and time for eternity

books 35-37

Jack London - The Call of the Wild

Well folks this might be all she wrote for my 50 book challenge. I've started reading The Hobbit now, so maybe we get to 37, but I'm jumping into LotR immediately after. Will surely be the longest book I've ever read

Cheers and happy holidays
