4.5 stars out of 5. Is a must-read for beginning readers and maybe writers. Very simple form of vocabulary and includes explanations which are easy to understand. Readers can understand and read literature through the eyes and mind of a professor, understanding what it means for a story to have depth and meaning.
The book mainly emphasises on symbolism and intertextuality, certain genres of books are also included. It is basically a Reading 101 course except the person teaching you is interacting with you through the book, which makes it all the more interesting.
I believe that some people may find this book boring, but I believe it is rather about whether you really want to learn about reading literature or not. I like how some of the chapters are extremely short, only about 4 to 5 pages, and the sense of finishing one of those chapters feels like an accomplishment.
I feel that this book may also help higher-level readers as it provides many examples for texts and poems, which also includes a brief conclusion of the text, and all of that explanation could link very well to the topic discussed.
Honestly, the truth is , I do realise that reading this book isn’t going to make much of a difference in the short term. I mean like, I will still continue reading books, a little more experienced than I was before, but I trust that the book in this process is like the first brick laid down on a glorious path of reading understanding the essence of literature.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading or writing, it makes a wonderful for both even though it only mentions reading in the title.
I hope you have enjoyed this review, if you have read all of the above text, maybe you’ll be interested in this book.
