The leaded glass viewing windows really do it for me. Imagine how heavy this would be, and how much upward effort it would require to force just that viewing window, to say nothing of the brass fittings, out of the Earth's gravity well.
Also, they apparently are operating a 19th-century drone en route, given what appears in the top right corner.

>1 EndofDiskOne: I don't know about all the science trickery needed with weight and velocity to escape the atmosphere, but I can guarantee you can't do it in a roofless craft!

Also, it's been decades since I read this, but what gives with the drone? Why is there a ship's wheel?

I've always wondered why blurbs say "complete and unabridged." Are there complete abridged versions?

IIRC, the original was a cramped bullet-shaped capsule with porthole type windows. Dunno where the luxury Space Steamboat comes from: I suspect it's a case of Didn't Read the Story.
@TorMented: it would make more sense if they said "unabridged and complete."

I'm glad they bolted the keg of beer to the floor. You don't want it floating off into space.

>6 daard23: But what's the sphere next to the keg?
@bam2001: That's what I remembered too. Fired out of a giant cannon, later seen in the Melies movie.

>7 GSSex-noob: Perhaps beer bubbles get really big in zero gravity? Why the two dudes aren't floating around I dunno. Magnetic shoes?
As usual, the artist is feet-averse, and that blue mist makes it look as if the spaceship is on fire, or possibly full of dry ice. Or maybe it's more SPACE, which combined with the lack of a roof makes me wonder if these are actually SPACE GHOSTS.

>7 GSSex-noob: Oh, that's the nitrogen tank to keep the beer at the appropriate temperature! No proper gentleman would drink lager at anything but the correct temperature - which of course depends on the type of brew.

>10 GSSex-noob: Yes, the mist is from the nitrogen cooling the air in the open-topped spaceship. ;-)
