Common books among members is referring to the small person icon that tracks how many other members have the same book. When a book is logged into my personal library the number of other members who have that book is automatically included. As time goes by, curiosity arises as to how many other libraries may now have that book. Is there a way to update that number tied (to that small person icon) to a current count for today?

It gets updated automatically - it is not something that gets saved in your catalog itself - it gets calculated/checked every time you see that icon. So if you add a book you have and you refresh the page, the number will change immediately (sometimes with a small delay in case of some server and/or cache disturbances).
There are more things in the catalog views like that - the work level data. The Catalog views are a mix of book data (personal copy data) and work data (the community data).

>2 AnnieMod: Thank you for your quick response. I hadn't refreshed my page so I didn't see your response till now. As I understand your answer, to update the community data icon I need to renter the same book in my personal catalogue. By so doing the system will reflect the current community data for that paticular book. And then as I delete my second book entry, whatever icon number remains represents the community number.
As an example, I selected a book entry with the icon number as 52. When I enter the second book entry it increased by 1 within the community data base, which for this example is now 53. Since it increaed only by one, I suppose this means that paticular book has not been added by any other member of the community since my original entry?
However, to complete the example, after I deleted the second book entry, the updated community icon minus my deletion of the second book entry, resulted in 52. So since the icon number returns to 52, it indicates the book was not included by any other personal libraries since my original entry.
Have I understood the process to update the icon correctly?

No. No need to reenter. It updates automatically. It may not do it very often, as these things happen when the site isn't very busy.

>3 BV3: No.
You don’t need to do anything. The number next to the icon updates on its own.
There may be a delay sometimes because of caching but it will update.

Thank you for the clarification. I understand that the system will update the icon number automatically and I do nothing to facilitate the process.
I suppose if I want to see if the icon number changes, I can save a copy of my personal library and then compare at some time later to see what, if any, changes occurred. I also understand the popularity or the general interest of a book is a driving factor.
I also understand that the system treats this as a low priority and so it could take awhile (perhaps 30 days?) before the icon number is updated.
These features add to the multifaceted benefits that LibraryThing Cataloger provides to a novice user that I would not have considered in my initial search for a tool to catalog my personal library. It may be deemed as a "geewhiz" feature to some but for me it is a nonintrusive way to see what books & media has garned a certain level of interest.
Thank you again for your prompt response to my questions.

It should not take as long as 30 days :) Usually minutes and hours and not days although it can take longer.
You can sort your library by that number but that will only show you absolute numbers…
One thing you may do is to save the number you see now in a field (comments or private comments for example) for the books you want to keep track of and then compare that number with the live number next time you are around. Export won’t carry that number (as it is not part of the library really).
Have fun exploring LT. :)

>10 SandraArdnas: Goodreads recognizes it as The Five Books of Moses Annotated, a slightly different title to the Annotated Edition The Five Books of Moses that the touchstone leads to.

My guess ie that site search does not find that ISBN because the only person to enter it left hyphens in. It also does not show as an ISBN link in 'Find it'. The ISBN does show in Editions.

LT Site search can only find things that have been entered in LT.

Sorry that I dropped off due to other circumstances. Thank you all for your comments. I did tried all available combinations provided via ISBNS.net. It provides two ISBN numbers 1-937735-62-1 and 978-1-937735-62-3. I tried all possible combinnation with hyphens and without, but no recognition of the numbers to the book title. I also tried the various sources listed under the "Add books" search listings and tried Amazon at its website. I didn't think to try "Goodreads" which does respond to the ISBN number, with hyphens. Is "Goodreads" something I can add to the search listings for "Add books"? It isn't part of the sources listed that can be added to the primary list.

Good Reads is not a source for LT.
If you can't find a book in the sources, you can add a book manually. The link is at the bottom of the left hand menu.
