Hi All, hope you are al well.
I wanted to add a LC number to a book I just added but couldn't see how. How please?

Go to "edit book" and scroll down to the bottom - you'll find a section for Classification. One of those is LC Classification, which is the one you want.

If you add from library sources you will probably get the LC classofication. If you use Amazon you will only get it if is already on the work.

Thank you for the response. But I'm asking about the LC number i.e., 84-203456, not the LC Classification. Its a bit like the ISBN.

There's a spot for LCCN in 'Identifiers' below the 'Classification' area.
Don't know if it works, as I've never tried it.

The easiest way is going to be enter the item using LoC as the source. I entered https://www.librarything.com/work/35512435/details/304524153 earlier this year and the LCCN is there.

I think this would need to be an RSI (recommended Site Improvement) because once a book is entered, the LCCN is grayed out and not able to be edited on the edit book page.
If you have not used a source that includes it, you can't add it later...

>7 gilroy: I didn't know that it couldn't be edited later. Thank you for pointing that out.
I have more than a few books which do not have a LoCCN, but I apparently can edit and could add the number if one exists. So the barrier to editing is 'once a number is added, that number can't be edited'?

>8 MsMixte: if it doesn't come from a source, a LCCN can not be added to a book. Not part of the manual add page and not in the edit book page.
A LC Classification number can be added and edited, but not a LCCN.

>9 gilroy: Ah, perhaps I have the LCCNs because my books are added either through LOC or World Cat most of the time (if they aren't added manually).
Thank you for the explanation.
