Deaths in June - 2025

American writer Edmund White died on 3 or 4 June aged 85. His work includes novels such as A Boy's Own Story and The Beautiful Room is Empty, memoirs such as My Lives and biographies of Marcel Proust and Jean Genet.

Novelist, essayist, biographer, memoirist, and playwright Edmund White died June 3 aged 85. White's works include A boy's own story, Rimbaud: The Double Life of a Rebel, City Boy: My Life in New York During the 1960s and '70s, and (with Charles Silverstein) The Joy of Gay Sex. White was of the first generation of gay American writers who wrote for other gay people; the previous generations wrote for straight people (with a lot of subtext).

Journalist and thriller writer, and occasional spy, Frederick Forsyth, author of The Day of the Jackal and The Odessa File, has died on 9 June aged 86.

Musician Sly Stone died June 9 at the age of 82. His memoir was Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin): A Memoir.

Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys died June 11 at the age of 82. He wrote I Am Brian Wilson: A Memoir .

Thriller writer Frederick Forsythe died June 9 at the age of 86. His many books include The Fox, The Outsider: My Life in Intrigue, The Kill List, Day of the Jackal, The Cobra, and The Afghan.

Broadcaster Bill Moyers died June 26 at the age of 81. His books include A World of Ideas : Conversations With Thoughtful Men and Women About American Life Today and the Ideas Shaping Our Future and Moyers on America.

Baseball star Dave Parker died June 28 at the age of 74. He wrote Cobra: A Life of Baseball and Brotherhood.

Young adult and children's author Susan Beth Pfeffer died June 23 aged 77. Pfeffer's works include Life as We Knew It (the first book in The Last Survivors series), The Year Without Michael, and a series about the Louis May Alcott characters, Portraits of Little Women.

Comics creator and executive Jim Shooter died June 30 aged 73. Shooter's most popular works on LT include Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, Spider-Man: Birth of Venom, and Avengers: the Korvac saga.

Chemist Edward Andersdied June 1 at the age of 98. His books include 19 Months in a Cellar, Amidst Latvians During the Holocaust, Meteorites and the Early History of the Solar System, and Jews in Liepaja, Latvia, 1941-45: A memorial book.

YA book author Else Breen died June 12 at the age of 98. Her books include També et pots morir a la primavera (El Corsari) (Catalan Edition) and I Blankenby : dikt og regler fra engelskspråklig tradisjon.

Cartographer Ferjan Ormeling Jr. died June 13 at the age of 82. His books include Basic Cartography Volume 3: For Students and Technicians (Basic Cartography) and Cartography: Visualization of Spatial Data.

Actress, writer, and singer Topsy Kuppers died June 14 at the age of 93. Her books include Nix wie Zores! and Mein Ungustl. Ein widerlicher Gast.

I looked her up because her LT entry lists books translated into many different languages but seemingly none in English. LT lists more copies of her most popular book in Catalan than in Norwegian but the original title i stripete genser translates to English as "In Stripy Jumper", while the Spanish/Catalan title is about someone dying in the spring. It's the story of a 15 year old girl whose mother is terminally ill, is what I think the descriptions say in Spanish (I'm guessing from my slightly better French....). It is the second book about Mia and her family. So she might have been mostly a YA author. Wikipedia mentions a couple of novels written for adults and a book about children's literature.

Journalist, editor, and novelist who focused on political economics and history David Boyle died June 20 aged 67. Boyle's works include Blondel's Song: The capture, Imprisonment and Ransom of Richard the Lionheart, Alan Turing: Unlocking the Enigma, Authenticity : brands, fakes, spin and the lust for real life, and The tyranny of numbers : why counting can't make us happy.

Therapist, teacher, and breastfeeding counsellor Naomi Stadlen died June 6 aged 82. Stadlen's works include What Mothers Do: especially when it looks like nothing, How Mothers Love: And how relationships are born, and What Mothers Learn: Without Being Taught.

The bank robber behind Stockholm Syndrome Clark Olofsson died on June 24. He wrote Vafan var det som hände? which loosely translates to What the hell happened?
