Blue-Flagged Review

Someone blue-flagged my review of The Body Keeps the Score https://www.librarything.com/work/15130416/book/252146166

I can’t figure out why someone would have thought this was “not a review.” My review is original, not overly short, and expresses my legitimate opinion about the book. Does anyone have any insights?

Thank you for your input!

Someone seems to have removed the flag.

Perhaps somebody objected to your saying the you had skimmed. But that is certainly a legitimate comment.

Unrelated, there seems to be a bug on that work page with text formatted in italics where it shouldn't be. I'll report that.
Edit, done, at: https://www.librarything.com/topic/372650

In my opinion, skimming is a legitimate reaction to a text and one worth noting. It goes without saying that when one finds oneself skimming, it means that the text is not sufficiently engaging for close reading. I can see where someone might object and think I read the book inattentively, but I would say that I read the book with all the attention I found it deserved.

>4 akblanchard: Exactly, and it is helpful to hear that another reader decided to skim part of the book rather than just abandoning it. (Which is also legitimate to mention in a review.)

>4 akblanchard: I don't think you need to be so defensive in your (edited) review, if you don't want to. Bad flags happen and there's a whole ongoing thread to address them: https://www.librarything.com/topic/182266
No need to give one person, who might not even be here anymore, that much power over the content of your review, IMO.

>7 norabelle414: You are right. I don't have to defend myself or my review.

To add to what has been said already, pretty much anything that constitutes your opinion of the work is a review, even if it's just 2 words. Blue flag is for things clearly not a review, such as location notations, ToC only and such. If it's a copy/paste of copyrighted summary, I red flag those.

>9 SandraArdnas: It doesn't need two words. Tim reviewed one book with No!, and the discussion agreed that that was a valid review.
