Selected Poems of Rupert Brooke LIMITED EDITION 2015
This is a selection of Rupert Brooke’s most famous poems, presented in a special limited edition of 1750 copies to mark the centenary of his death.
Rupert Brooke (1887-1915) is famous for his evocation of Edwardian England in poems such as ‘The Old Vicarage, Grantchester’, his war poems and his wide-eyed patriotism. He fought in World War I but died from septicaemia aged 27 on board a hospital ship in the Aegean, before the illusion of a just and heroic war was completely shattered.
The xxi+60 page book has been designed to reflect the values of the fine press movement of the early 20th century. The text was set in Monotype Walbaum by Stan Lane at Gloucester Typesetting Services and printed letterpress on Zerkall mould-made smooth paper at The Stonehouse Fine Press. It is illustrated with nine original lithographs (seven double-page) and six letterpress vignettes by Ed Kluz. There is an eleven page introduction by Jon Stallworthy
The endpapers are dark grey Freelife Merida paper and the page tops are stained blue. It is quarter bound in Vicenza by LEGO in dark blue leather with colour pattern printed handmade paste-paper covers. The dark blue slipcase (25.8x18.3cm.) is covered in Freelife Merida, blocked on the front with a lithograph label and gilt titling. On publication its price was £195.

In my mind this is one of the FS's best works - it's magnificent and really invokes the feeling of the great fine presses of the 20th century, which is what they intended! Reasonably priced, and beyond reasonable if you managed to get a copy when it was on sale! One of my favorites.

I have a copy of this and it really is a beautiful book. Though I haven’t managed to pick up the other two in the series yet, I do intend to.
I seem to remember there also being a video of the printing process somewhere but I cannot find it.
