Hall of Fame basketball coach George Raveling died September 2 at the age of 88. He wrote What You're Made For: Powerful Life Lessons from My Career in Sports and A rebounder's workshop: A drill manual on rebounding.

Fashion designer Giorgio Armani died September 4 at the age of 91. His works include Giorgio Armani, Giorgio Armani : twenty-five photographers, and Per Amore.

Musician Mark Volman died September 5 at the age of 78. He wrote Happy Forever: My Musical Adventures With The Turtles, Frank Zappa, T. Rex, Flo & Eddie, And More.

Boxer Ricky Hatton died September 14 at the age of 46. His books include The Hitman: My Story and Ricky Hatton's Vegas Tales.

Song writer/musician Bobby Hart died September 15 at the age of 86. He wrote Psychedelic Bubble Gum: Boyce & Hart, The Monkees, and Turning Mayhem into Miracles and Words & Music: Songs of Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart.

Crime/mystery novelist Thomas Perry died on 15 September. He was 77/78 (born in 1947). His books include The Butcher's Boy (the first in a series) and the Jane Whitfield series, starting with Vanishing Act.

Food writer Marilyn Hagerty died September 16 at the age of 99. She wrote Grand Forks: A History of American Dining in , Echoes; a Selection of Stories and Columns By Marilyn Hagerty, and The Best of The Eatbeat with Marilyn Hagerty.

>7 varielle: Grand Forks is a weirdly charming book, a look at the life of a food critic in a place where the opening of a national chain restaurant is major news, and where a Panda Express might be the most authentic Chinese food in town. I remember that she usually thought soup was too salty, and consistently complained about flimsy paper napkins.

Actress Claudia Cardinale died September 24 at the age of 87. Her autobiography was called Io Claudia, Tu Claudia.

Journalist, historian, and children's book author Ken Mochizuki died September 20 aged 71. Mochizuki's works include: Baseball saved us, about the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II; Passage to freedom : the Sugihara story, about a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania during World War II; and Beacon Hill boys, about Japanese Americans in 1972 Seattle (the novel and the book for the stage musical).

Journalist and television news anchor Belva Davis died September 24 aged 92. Davis's memoir is Never in my wildest dreams a black woman's life in journalism.

Crime novelist Ann Granger died aged 86. Granger's works include Say it with poison (starting the Mitchell & Markby series), The companion (starting the Lizzie Martin & Benjamin Ross series), and Murder among us.

English author of several romances Hannah Langdon, including Christmas with the Knights and Escape to the Country Kitchen died after a short illness on 4 September. I can't find info about her age but she was still working as an assistant head at a prep school (private primary school).

Poet, playwright and translator Tony Harrison has died on 26 September aged 88. His most famous (or infamous) work might be a long poem called V - a filmed version was controversially broadcast on Channel 4 in 1987, and there were discussions in Parliament about it. Tony Harrison was from my home city, and, reading about it, I think I might have to look for a copy to read.

Poet, playwright, and translator Tony Harrison died September 26 aged 88. Harrison's works include the collection Under the clock, the poem V, a translation of Moliere's The Misanthrope, and an adaptation of Smetana's The Bartered Bride.

Former heart surgeon and head of the LDS church Russell M. Nelson died September 27 at the age of 101. His books include Accomplishing the Impossible: What God Does, What We Can Do, The Power Within Us, and Heart of the Matter: What 100 Years of Living Have Taught Me.

American political activist who found refuge in Cuba Assata Shakur died September 27 at the age of 78. Her books include Assata: An Autobiography, Still Black, Still Strong, and From Somewhere in the World: Assata Shakur Speaks--Message to the New Afrikan Nation.

Liverpoool poet Brian Patten died on 29 September aged 79. He was the youngest of the three poets whose work was published in The Mersey Sound and a follow up, New Volume, starting his career in his teens. Other collections included Notes to the Hurrying Man and The Irrelevant Song. He also wrote for children and edited The Puffin Book of Twentieth Century Children's Verse.

Heavyweight boxer and actor Joe Bugner died September 1 at the age of 75. He wrote Joe Bugner: My Story.

Susan Griffin ecofeminist and author of Women and Nature: The Roaring Inside Her died on September 30th.

Journalist Harvey Aronson died September 2 at the age of 96. His books include High Hopes: The Amityville Murders, Establishment of Innocence, and The Killing of Joey Gallo.

Author Rosalyn Drexler died September 3 at the age of 98. Her books include Rocky, Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage Runaway, I Am the Beautiful Stranger and To Smithereens.

Author Baek Se-hee died September 16 at the age of 35. She wrote I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki and I Want to Die but I Still Want to Eat Tteokbokki: Further Conversations with My Psychiatrist.

Nuclear chemist Darleane C. Hoffman died September 4 at the age of 98. She wrote The transuranium people the inside story.

Judy Taylor died on 2 September aged 93. She worked at Bodley Head and became editor of children's books, including working with Maurice Sendak. She wrote children's books herself including several books about Sophie and Jack. Later she wrote several books about Beatrix Potter, including Beatrix Potter: Artist, Storyteller and Countrywoman.

Librarian Alma Dawson died September 11 at the age of 80. Her books include African American Literature: A Guide to Reading Interests and A History of the Louisiana Library Association 1925-2000.

Running coach and Olympic medalist Jack Daniels died September 12 at the age of 92. His books include Daniels' Running Formula and Conditioning for Distance Running: The Scientific Aspects (American College of Sports Medicine).
