Graciela wasn’t at work or at home when McCaleb phoned. Any thoughts on this? Was it suspicious at all?

Totally suspicious!
I thought the killer was not finished with McCaleb yet. Noone had two outcomes that he could call successful: McCaleb being arrested, tried and found guilty of Gloria’s murder; or, McCaleb doing what he did, finding the garage and discovering that he’d have to live with the knowledge the killing was all to get him a heart.
Both of those had failed, (I say this because, outwardly, McCaleb was still walking around looking functional, he didn’t come across as being totally dejected, and I believed at this point the killer was still watching him).
I thought the killer, therefore, had recourse to one more turn of the screw - namely, abducting Graciela (and Raymond?)…

Red alarm bells should have been ringing, this part of the book didn’t feel right to me. As Sergei said Noone wasn’t finished with McCaleb.surelt obvious Noone must have had her.
