This book does not contain any Sea Serpents.

A weird book with a weird cover that's weirdly inappropriate for it.

Boats, plural? I only see one. Manned by big-headed baldies in olive drab.

Did the publisher think "boat and weird shit, this'll do"?

It's a striking painting. It's certainly striking my eyes. I suppose it goes with the purple eldritch prose of the blurb.

Strictly speaking, I believe that's a ship, not a boat, on the cover.

The Glen Carrig is already sunk when the story starts, but another ship is eventually encountered. It's not attacked by sea serpents, though.

Ah yes, he had one of my all time favorite book covers (from the old GSS site).

'We are the witchy malign men, searching for our dragon overlord,' sing the crew of the boats of Glen Campbell.

"And the witchy malign men, are not feeling fine"

>4 AndreasJ: I agree it's rigged out for a ship. But the bald guys*, if presumed to be any human size, make it seem like a boat. Either that or they're giants.

@daard23: One of the all-time GSS "greats", for certain. Usually in the top 10.

@NomadUK/daard23: Also a hearty GSS for the song. fails to come up with anything for "Rhinestone Cowboy" due to low blood sugar

*portrayed by Matt Lucas in his best overacting

>6 NomadUK: Just got this. If Jimmy Webb weren't still alive, he would be spinning in his grave.

>9 haydninvienna: Whereas he liked and occasionally sang "Jurassic Park", because he and Weird Al are cool.

@bam2001: indeed! Also not ruling out "artist liked medieval woodcuts and controlled substances".

>11 GSSex-noob: Thank you thank you thank you! That was hilarious! As a long-time Jimmy Webb fan, I can see him having sense of humour enough to enjoy it*. For anyone else who didn't even know it existed: https://youtu.be/gh4zvQfDhi0?si=6499Vgd0SxkdEMtT

*Unfortunately, on the one occasion I've seen him live, he just sang the ordinary words.

>12 haydninvienna: I don't know how many times Mr. xn and I watched that video back in the day. We had to record it on VHS so we could get our fix without spending all day and night in front of MTV and freeze-frame.

I dimly recall seeing a video of Al and Jimmy singing together once. Al doesn't do parodies unless he can get the rights; in that case, he got the OK from both Webb and Spielberg.

I might have been thinking of the JP words when McAP started up in "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice". After I almost aspirated my soda when I heard the music start. Majestic!
