I have a fairly large personal library and will be moving soon. I am planning to create "patrons" in tiny cat to identify the box that the books will be packed in. (Ex. patron names of "box 1", Box 2, etc.). Is there a simple way to scan the ISBN numbers of the books, videos, etc. that will automatically check them out to the "patron" as I pack them?

Why not just use tags in the website?

I assume it's because it's a lot easier to scan the ISBNs if it will automatically 'check them out' to a 'patron' that represents a box, as opposed to searching one's catalogue for the correct book, going in to edit, typing (at least the beginning of) the correct tag, saving changes. That's a lot more steps than just scanning each book as you put them away.

If you use power edit you can change several tags at once.

Hi @Hansberger, you can certainly add boxes as patrons and check books out to the box containing them (a fun way to think about it). The others here are correct that you could also use PowerEdit to apply tags or collections to your books en masse.
I don't think that checking them out to 'box patrons' (even with a quick scan of the ISBN) would be too much faster than the other options, but you could speed it up by organizing them first: queue up the patron in TinyCat, make sure all the books are already cataloged, then add them to the transaction as you add them to the box by scanning the ISBN. I would try this with a few items first, five to ten maybe, and see how it goes with your records as you have them etc.
Scanning for checkouts like this isn't built-in, so you'll want to get a separate scanner. Of course we sell our CueCats at the LibraryThing Store. Let me know if you have any questions about transactions like this in TinyCat—you may find the videos on our YouTube channel helpful (https://www.youtube.com/@librarything).
