Any thoughts about Roxanne’s tears, and her telling Ellie about her dead sister?

I think it could be true, or at least parts of it. On the other hand, Roxanne has done this before so it could just be a well rehearsed part of her scam.

An act to draw Ellie in closer.

Roxanne was quite upset about her dead sister so Ellie had to stay and care for her and couldn’t call her mom.

I agree with >3 JohnDBurke:. Parts might be true to a point...but I think that it's an act.

Crocodile tears. It’s all part of the plan to delay the moment Ellie wants to go home.

I agree that this is all an act. Interesting to note the lengths Roxanne is going to in order to trap Ellie. either she or whoever is in charge of the operation really wants to control this young girl.

All part of the plan. All as a way to keep her at the house and not suspecting anything.

More of her act to gain Ellie’s trust and affection. Roxanne doesn’t need to act directly to make Ellie stay. Ellie think she is making her own decision to stay.
